This Is Not My Hat

What a way to introduce kids to an unreliable narrator! I love that we don't know what happened at the ending - alright we probably know, but still you can wonder. A worthy "companion" book to [b:I Want My Hat Back|11233988|I Want My Hat Back|Jon Klassen|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327888784s/11233988.jpg|16160067].

Fine, I guess? Less of a dark ending than the bear one. Good artwork.

Also plot twist.

I'm not sure why this didn't appeal to me as much as the first. Perhaps it's because the little fish is so proud of himself for stealing? Even though he gets his comeuppance in the end it still rubbed me the wrong way how he was so sure of himself.

Not as good as its predecessor, but still a pretty hilarious picture book for little or big kids (like yours truly).

This is a story about consequences and comeuppance, and I enjoyed it.

The irony in this book is what makes it so wonderful. It's all in the eyes.

This book made me laugh out loud. This was a Theodor Seuss Giesel Honor Book which is an honor bestowed on books that border between a picture book a an easy reader. Uses a lot of repetitive words for the emerging reader. Illustrations were darling.

Wonderful illustrations - all underwater where it's BLACK - everything else is in grays, browns, beiges, and whites. Well-earned Caldecott Award! And such a fun, clever story. A good one to read aloud to my class and have them write about what happened in the thick undergrowth, where the reader could not see the action. All sorts of shenanigans could have gone on in there!
