funny relaxing fast-paced

Just won the Caldecott. Cute illustrations and a mysterious ending, unusual in picture books.

Great book. First time I found suspense in a picture book.

read this for a class but it was adorable lol

Excellent for teaching inference. Perfect Caldecott example of words and illustrations working together to create a fantastic story. Clever.

I grinned the whole way through- delightful story and the art is chef’s kiss

Kinda disturbing.
funny lighthearted

WONDERFUL! I'm so glad I took the time to read this one. Great for working on humor and inferences. Seriously, though... just read it.

I read this book back in November for my children's literature class. All I can say is, OMG I love this book. I'm almost 20 and this is like the best thing I have read. I thought it was hilarious, especially the face of the big fish when he found out that the little fish stole his hat. This book won the Caldecott medal for a reason. I really loved the art style, it complimented the story line well. The dark hues created this sense of mystery that worked well with the little fish trying to hide. Though this book is aimed at younger children I don't quite think it's suitable for them just yet. While the language is easy to follow, it actually got kind of dark thematically. I've learned that children typically don't like a story that leaves them in despair. It may scare a child to know that the little fish...the character they were supposed to be rooting for got eaten. I mean it wasn't shown, but when the big guy comes out of the seaweed wearing his hat a child could take the hint. But for an older group of children and an adult who can enjoy a good children's book I completely recommend this literature gold. Not even kidding, I read this once because I needed to analyze it for class, once for fun, another time to my friend, and then out loud to a group of people in a completely different class. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.
