I have been woman
for a long time
beware my smile
I am treacherous with old magic
and the noon's new fury
with all your wide futures
promised
I am
woman
and not white.

Stunning. I don't believe I'm qualified to review poetry (especially written by one of the greatest poets of our time), but I found this work incredibly compelling.

Ik begreep niet elk gedicht, maar de gedichten die ik begreep vond ik heel goed. Het was heel lichamelijk.

I shall be forever.
May I never remember reasons
for my spirit's safety
may I never forget
the warning of my woman's flesh
weeping at the new moon
may I never lose
that terror
that keeps me brave
May I owe nothing
that I cannot repay.

I have been woman
for a long time
beware my smile
I am treacherous with old magic
and the noon's new fury
with all your wide futures
promised
I am
woman
and not white.

I'm not usually a big poetry person. I like Audre Lorde so this seemed to be necessary reading. I folded over many corners of pages to come back to in the future.
