Twenty Boy Summer

This book was good in a melancholy kind of way. I thought some of the descriptions were overly poetic. As a lifelong beach goer, I did think the author did a good job of capturing the feel of the ocean and the feelings one has or gets the first time they see it.

Good read

das schlimmste buch welches ich dieses jahr gelesen habe. keine empfehlung. es ist nicht mal so schlecht, so dass es wieder lustig ist.

❤️❤️❤️ amazing !!! my favourite author!

First, let me just say don't let the title fool you. This is not a light, fluffy (yes, I said fluffy), flirty read. I was fooled. I picked this up thinking 'Okay, girl losses a guy then she has summer flings, then finds a guy and they fall in love.' WRONG! This novel has much more depth than thought. This novel really took me on an emotional ride.
This novel will have you laughing one moment, then crying your eyes out the next. A story about loss, friendship. and heartbreak.

The characters are real and, one of my favorite character traits, raw. Anna was a great main character. I instantly liked her. She was strong and a good friend. She was able to mourn the loss of Matt, her boyfriend, and be able to support her best friend. I was truly amazed with her. She was really mature for her age and I think that made me like her even more! Her best friend, Frankie, was a whole other story. She had me confused all the way to the end.

The writing of this novel was out of this world. I felt like I was right on the beach in sunny California with the girls! What more could you ask for a summer read? Sarah Ockler has an amazing talent. Her writing will leave you breathless.

The cover is beautiful! I love how they tied the sea glass from the story on to the cover. It really did capture my attention.

Overall, this was emotionally crazy! A little slow in some parts for me, but still very likable.

Twenty Boy Summer is EMOTIONAL & BEAUTIFUL.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this book very much! It almost made it on my list of favorite books! Actually, I am still considering its position among my past reads.

Anna is absolutely adorable. She struggles with the love she has lost and keeping her promise to him not to tell her best friend. I fell in love with Matt, from the very beginning. For more than half of the book, I remained upset that he passed away. I wanted her to be able to experience the love they shared!

Frankie is taking it very hard and losing her mind. The once confident, yet conservative young lady, turns bad girl. She becomes obsessed with flinging herself at boys, sneaking around while her parents are not looking, and pressuring Anna into lose her virginity. Though, despite her crazy behavior, she remained in my good graces for the majority of the book.

The betrayal (I will say no more than that) was shocking and extremely emotional!

I admire this book, and I will most likely keep it in a special place among my bookshelves.

I recommend this book to any YA reader who enjoys stories about loss, healing, and growing up.

I cannot believe I've waited this long to read Twenty Boy Summer.

I love the melancholy feel and vibe and writing of this book. And how Sarah Ockler went back in the past while being in the future without it all being so confusing.

The friendship between Anna and Frankie was quite relatable to me. They were both going through a grieving phase and both of them didn't know what to do and how to deal. And being a teenager, it feels like you know everything already and it seems like you can fix things and things will stay in control.

I cringed a bit (A LOT) when Anna agreed to the Twenty Boy Summer because I couldn't get over Matt yet. BUT DANG HER SUMMER FLING STOLE MY HEART LEMME HAVE HIM PLEASE. It was full of emotion and quite the realistic fiction but it will definitely no leave you unsatisfied.

Wow. Just Wow.

This book broke my heart in the best way.

Not going to lie, I was hesitant to read this book and had shelved it for years because I knew it was going to be sad. And sometimes you need to be in the right head space to feel sad. Sometimes it’s easier to read something light and fluffy; something that is all sweet without the bitterness.

But by god, I am glad I finally found the nerve to read it.

Sure it was filled with heartbreak, heartache and loss. Sure it ripped my heart clean out of my chest. But it made me empathize with Anna’s loss and try to understand/work through the grief cycle with her. That’s pretty powerful stuff!

And boy is grief far from a pretty thing. It’s visceral and real, and is downright heart breaking. I have been lucky to not have experienced such a grief but if I ever have to in my life, this book has taught me that it’s okay to find strength at your own pace. And while it may not feel tangible in the moment, in time, you will be okay.

This book proves that not all endings have to be final. Sometimes endings are just the beginning of something new. (As Semisonic would say “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”. )
