I am not a stranger to age gap books I usually quiet enjoy them.
This story is interesting Dandelion is surviving it isn’t always pretty because when the unimaginable happens to you, you can’t just bounce back into life.
Senseless killings it’s hard to wrap your brain around that but it is even harder to life with it.
It is just Danny and her brother now who is terrified he is going to lose her.
She gets to know a few kids at her new school and the guidance counsellor who can’t get it but tries.
They get much too close for a “student, teacher” relationship.
Again I don’t mind all that, but I guess I just felt like Danny was still too childlike that I don’t like. Yes she is young 18 almost 19 but her experiences of life make her older now if the author had captured that better. I think I would have enjoyed this book more.
I quiet enjoyed the narrator I think Ava did a great job.

The angst people. The angst! This was a super slow burn that I was pretty hooked to all the way through. But as much as I was really interested in the first 75% the last 25% was so confusing to me on what the author was doing and dragged so so much. And then the ending was like a little bit of a let down. But I gotta give credit for the majority of this book having me hooked.

DNF at 20%. Everything felt pretty flat and mundane. I couldn't get past some subtle unrealistic things that shouldn't happen with a school counselor. I feel like since I am in that field, a lot of it felt weird or unrealistic and I just could not. I didn't feel invested and found myself skimming a lot. So disappointed!

Sweet Dandelion is one of those books that is endearing but definitely punches you in the gut.

We follow Dandelion (Dani) as she deals with the aftermath of being a survivor of a school shooting and trying to figure out her place in the world. Relationships formulate, flashbacks happen, issues arise, but through it all one thing you can count on is that Dani will persevere.

It wasn't just a love story, it was a survivor story.

DNF

couldn’t get into this one. I didn’t even mind the 18 yo student and 29 yo teacher age gap (hello, pretty little liars). For me it was the situations and the way the story was going. They felt too set up and perfect, and for a forbidden, tabooish romance, Lachlan gave in pretty easy after saying he couldn’t do it. It was just not enough.

Another review said it was very Watpad and while I didn’t read too many, it feels like every high school girls daydream of a perfect scenario where the teacher likes her. Just ehh to me.

I think the most disappointing part of this book is that the author displayed no real knowledge of what depression or anxiety really looks/feels like.

It was a repetitive order food, contemplate my nail polish, eat cafeteria food, joke about the fact that I can’t cook… combine that with way too many references of modern movies (Twilight) and music which dates a book and totally removes the readers from the story… I DNF’d after 4 days of trying to finish.

This story had the potential to really delve into the mental health of someone who has PTSD, depression, and anxiety. This could have been a book that really opened up the discussion for serious issues. Instead it fell flat.

this book was good! i did enjoy it. the first half, i was so captivated and couldn’t put it down but it did eventually start getting really long for me towards the end of the book. i also did feel uncomfortable at some scenes (not because of the age gap but because of the whole counsellor part) and i did feel more connected to her relationship to ansel at some parts too but the ending was very sweet. i just wish i connected to her and lachlan more.

edit a year later: this review sounds like i was trying so hard to convince myself into liking it but it was very pedophile-y
