Amazing book and the other 2 in the trilogy are just as good
Very slow beginning...I am starting the second one
O wow, I'm just so confused. I understand that. The Legend was not only a Legend but was real, but the connection with Irving confuses me because of the fact that Nickolas and Katy were there alive and well makes no sense. I know Nockolas is the Headless Horseman Katy is Katerina Van Tassel and I'm guessing Caspian is Ichabab Crane, because when it cam to Abbeys question and him saying he was drawn to Crane Rover it only makes sense but O gosh Caspains a ghost - I am heart broken- and completely confused at what he said that the day he kissed her he did it because that was it it was only that day why that day what was so special and who is Abbey. It's totally co fusing. It not in a way that leaves you at a loss for words when someone says O what was that book about it just makes no sense and O mean I honestly really really want to read the next too. The mystery I. It is killing me and if Caspain was only allowed to touch her that day I can't wait for that day to come back.

I wanted to love this book because of the story it was based upon. I just couldn't get into it and I struggled through all 500+ pages. It could have been 150 pages shorter had it not been so meandering. A lot of the details seemed unnecessary, especially when it's easy to figure out what was going to happen before the halfway point. I do want to find out more about Kristen's secrets but not enough to read the other books.

I think the plot was interesting and loved how Verday tried to incorporate the story of Sleepy Hollow. I also really loved the characters, the characters are definitely the strongest part of this story! Abbey's unique talent for making perfumes is a great trait, and her friendship and love for Kristen feels real and deep. Even though Kristen is told to us to have passed in the very beginning of the book, she definitely feels very alive. The characters and the relationships they hold with each other are definitely Verday's strongest suit!
There were just some things that made it really hard to enjoy. This is a YA book but feels quite a bit more juvenile in writing style, with some mature themes. I also felt the descriptions of some things were a bit long winded and unnecessary (example: I don't think it was necessary to detail her whole Christmas shopping trip when only a couple of gifts were really relevant to the plot). As a result the story dragged in some spots, only for the ending to feel really abrupt and sudden. I also think this novel could have done with a couple more edits? There was some grammar and punctuation mistakes that stuck out very clearly to me.
One last thing that I did enjoy - I like Verday exploring Abbey's mental health a bit, and how everything happening is starting to crash down and break her. Kristen's death is starting to affect her. I really like the way she wove everything together. I could feel it happening slowly and then one last thing just caused her to finally admit she was suffering. It realistic.
It was okay. Interesting story, but it dragged a bit. Just not for me.
Beautiful story that captivated me...I searched for book 2 for a week! It made me see cemeteries in a completely different light, as a place of solitude instead of a creepy place where ghosts wait to attack you at any moment. I definitely fell in like with the characters in this book.
I borrowed The Hollow from the library on a whim. Imagine my surprise at finding out that Jessica Verday is a semi-local girl and is from a town about one hour away from my own. I had hoped that this fact would bode well for the book. Although vicinity has nothing to do with a book's quality, I thought it would be pretty interesting to have the author of a book I enjoy nearby, since book tours rarely seem to come near here. However, it doesn't seem that it was meant to be.
I had a very difficult time getting into this book. For the majority of the story, the most supernatural thing about it was the location: Sleepy Hollow, NY. I kept expecting for things to begin happening much earlier than they did as far as the book's description as being a paranormal romance went. When things did finally come to a head, the book was nearly over and I was left thinking, "That's it?" The revelation just lacked the punch that was really needed to make it earth-shattering news. Another issue I encountered was the relationship between Abbey and Caspian. It just didn't feel very believable to me and I could not get past the fact that Abbey went along with the flirtation so long without asking about such mundane facts as Caspian's last name. I also found several other components of the relationship hard to believe, though I am forced to leave those components out for fear of making this review too spoiler-heavy. Suffice it to say that I was not a fan of this pairing.
One thing that I did not have a hard time with was Abbey's grief for the loss of her friend, Kristen. I found that I was easily able to relate with her on that count, having lost a friend of my own five years ago. Her devotion to the memory of her friend was touching and watching her go through the stages of grief was absolutely heartbreaking. I felt for Abbey very much and wondered how she was going to get through everything going on in her life. Abbey's grief process was probably the only thing I found anywhere near believable about this book.
I'm not sure what else there is to say about The Hollow. It was okay on some levels and just not altogether appealing on others. I don't feel compelled to buy the other books in the series, but might consider checking them out of the library should they come available. I initially thought to give this book 3 hoots, but the more I thought about it, the more dissatisfied I became. I thought it had great potential, but could have been much better than it turned out.

A little bland.. Not a whole lot of chaos which I normally like.. The characters are okay.. Nothing great, but not awful. I definitely feel like there's going to be a crazy something that Caspian drops on her, but maybe not. So far no fantasy/para type stuff, just contemporary romanceish. SOOO they are ghosts, well the 2 old people and Caspian... WTF.. Still a little bland but deff interested now
