I loved the representation this book had for the LQBTQIA+ community and for autoimmune diseases, but I never felt connected to any of the characters. I think there were way too many different plot lines going on in the story so the characters felt a little flat.

This was so good! The main character is chronically ill (Crohn's, aka a "bathroom disease") and queer and oh so relatable to this queer IBS girlie. It is a middle grade book kind of right on the cusp of early YA (the character is 12 and starting to date, etc.). Thought I don't have IBD like the character and her support group best friends l, I do have IBS and always have to some degree so I wish this book had existed back when I was 12. I hope I would have been brave enough to read it because it would have really made me feel seen. It's all about figuring out who you are and relationships, and how chronic illness can affect those things. So good!

I was very interested to read a kids novel that centre's Crohn's disease but I was disappointed by how lightly it was treated, like a punchline. Also everybody being queer (literally not a single character identifies as heterosexual) makes that seem like a joke as well. It's a cute enough story  (the ibd support group stuff was lovely, and the Breakfast Club references charming) and the writing is quite good tho.

This book is delightful. It’s complex and feels (at least to my memory) very TRUE in terms of struggling through middle school while figuring out being queer AND THEN have to deal with a diagnosis and the changes that need to be made… by everyone… to figure out how to exist after that.

Content warnings for poop humor 💩

I enjoyed the book for the most part but i HATEEEE her bestfriends outburst? it was very uncalled for and her apology was unnecessary because she wasn’t in the wrong .

Her girlfriend was also insensitive towards her not being out yet& that breakup was unnecessary.

Her mom was uncalled for and she needed to reflect on her actions .

Beth was the only one who seemed to rationally approach al’s feelings! Beth is the queen!

4.5 rounded up!!
Such an amazing book for people that, like me, knew absolutely nothing about crohn and life as a chronically ill person. Amazing book for children/teens as well. I just know this book was the light and strength of a recently diagnosed's person out there
