An incredible deep dive into an often overlooked aspect of nature. I loved the section on dairy farming, selfishly and absolutely marvel at all the moss facts that just aren't mainstream. With the feeling of a neighborhood stroll, Kimmerer sheds light on the science and activism around our small mossy friends.

I never thought I could be so engrossed in a book about moss. Absolutely stellar!

It’s slow, obviously. But the descriptions and passion make it a good read. It gives a good life philosophy and a lot of information. I could picture the scenes of someone studying moss in a forest and familiarizing themselves so much to the point of easy recognition.
Lovelylovelylovelymagic. Mosses are described with all the intimacy and care of describing close friends. And wall kimmerers scientific process is told as stories of creativity and curiosity. Just a beautiful book about life and mosses, and the life of mosses.

brilliant!!!
i read this on a camping vacation with my beloved. i read during the hot sleepy afternoons sitting on a big mossy rock, and then we walked through the forest to the beach and i gave messy chapter summaries and pointed out examples where i could. this is such a beautiful+personal+fascinating book! robin wall kimmerer is clearly a brilliant scientist and also a really really good writer. this is the kind of science writing i love: pulls me into a little world, makes me look closer at what’s around me, pays attention to the scientific process itself (what a joy to follow kimmerer in her experiments), and pulls from things beyond that process as well (including Indigenous ways of learning and the author’s friendship with her dairy farmer neighbour). inspiring!!!!!! can’t wait to read braiding sweetgrass + the serviceberry!
