A young twink realizes the power of his beauty and youth

Jk but only sorta

This book should alternatively be called the Depravity of Henry Wotton. What a rotten character. Such an interesting concept for the plot, and Wilde includes so much of his signature paradoxical satire. Sometimes it gets to be too much but overall very thoughtful and interesting for his only novel.

Who of us hasn't wished to hold onto our youth and beauty forever. F getting old!!!!!

It's a really great book! Can't really articulate my opinions but it's well written and while it is a bit boring in the start/middle I find it gets really fun near the end!

I really enjoy Wilde's writings because I feel he had so much great insight into human nature. Wilde's writing is witty and often makes me nod in agreement.

The Picture of Dorian Gray was this month's book club selection. I was a bit nervous going into it as I knew it was a darker book than the rest I've read (The Importance of Being Earnest, An Ideal Husband). The story was definitely darker than the others but it still made me chuckle as I read the wry observations on life, human character, and society as a whole.

This book is definitely a warning of how NOT to live. The story is depressing as Dorian spirals downward in morality. Harry keeps preaching to Dorian about how he should live life to the fullest, embracing whatever experiences he wants to have, no matter how sinful. Harry's advice is the exact opposite of how I live but I still had to agree with many of his assessments of the depravity of human nature. If this had been my book instead of a library copy, I would have underlined much of the text.

Definitely not a kids book. I wish I had studied it in college and had the opportunity to discuss it with a great literature professor.
