- The story picks up right after Anne of Avonlea ends. Anne is off to college!
- I liked how real Anne's emotions were. I could relate to her. As her friends go off in different directions and get married, Anne longs for the joys of her childhood. She was uncertain of college and leaving home. She was home sick a lot. Anne is so real to me.
- I love how Anne found a house to rent with her friends. That would have been a lot of fun in college.
- Phil was a fickle and silly character. I'm glad Anne found new friends, but this one was a bit annoying.
- Davy cracks me up!
- It drove me crazy that Anne wanted to keep Gilbert at arms length! What is wrong with her!? It takes her forever to realize that she loves Gilbert! Thank Goodness she finally does!
- We need more books set in college!

A classic. I had forgotten how funny this book is. It gets deep & emotional as well.
Spoiler
And Anne & Gilbert finally get together in the end!!
I have the following thoughts to offer:
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Though at times this book in the series tends to get caught up in boring details, I adore the story. I can't help but get concerned every time I read it over whether or not Anne will marry the boring Roy Gardner or if she and Gil will end up together.
Frankly, I can't remember if I've read this one! Time to read/re-read this one!
This is one of my very favourite books in the whole series and is probably the one I have read the most next to Anne of Green Gables.
I ship Anne and Gilbert so hard; they are one of my top favourite literary couples so I’m so happy with how things *finally* resolve!
Patty’s Place is so cosy…I’d love to poke around and chat with Priscilla, study with Stella, laugh with Phil, cook with Aunt Jimsie, and pet the cats.
Everything about this book is just stunning: the setting, the story, the characters.
Quotes….
“The little things of life, sweet and excellent in their place, must not be the things lived for; the highest must be sought and followed; the life of heaven must be begun here on earth.”
“‘Oh, Anne, things are so mixed-up in real life. They aren’t clear-cut and trimmed off, as they are in novels.’”

This book in the series finds Anne at college, while continuing to spend her summers at Avonlea. After the iconic Anne of Green Gables novel, this is the next one that has stood out in my memory, what with Anne lodging at Patty's Place (where Gog and Magog, the china dogs, reside next to the fireplace) and getting several marriage proposals (some of them laughably terrible and unexpected).
Anne struggles with reconciling what her view of love and passion are to what they look like in actuality, as she wonders if Diana is "settling." Anne grieves the death of a friend and grieves her strained friendship with Gilbert. All comes to a pleasing, if sudden, conclusion, and I continue to enjoy this jaunt through the volumes for the first time in recent memory, this time through audiobooks.

This was enjoyable. How many marriage proposals can Anne get!?
