Here is where I write that it is like the Hunger Games. Yup. But I liked it, and I think kids will too.

If The Hunger Games met The Maze Runner, fell in love, and had a baby, The Testing would be their child. I loved this book and would recommend it to others. As soon as I finished, I went straight to the library to see if the sequel was in! Would definitely recommend it.

A rather enjoyable read. Will be picking up book 2 just so I can find out what happens.

Definitely a Hunger Games clone, but it's a quick and entertaining read.

The concept for The Testing had potential - a dystopian world reminiscent of The Hunger Games, however the "test" is fighting for a space at the university. I like that take - that it is more of a positive draw instead of a harrowing obligation, albeit with similar life-threatening results. But the characters, action, and romance was utterly flat. I had zero emotional connection to anything that was happening, and it is a shame because Cia had the potential to be a really amazing, strong FMC.

All that being said, the ending did hook me and left me wanting more, but this its sequel is pretty far down on the priority list to revisit.

While this had a very strong Hunger Games/Divergent feel to it, I must say I really enjoyed this book!
Now to wait for #2 to go on sale...

Hunger Games Rip-off? Yeah, definitely. Kinda Divergent-ish at times? Yup. Annoying, stereotypical characters? Yes. Enjoyable and entertaining read? Fuck, yeah!

The first 100 pages were pretty boring to be honest. I was only mildly interested in the story and the characters, so I was playing with the thought to DNF this book. But I continued reading.

When the actual story finally started, I totally recognized all the obvious similarities with THG and Divergent. But I still enjoyed this book, despite the stereotypical love interest (Peeta, uhm, I mean, Tomas), the mostly not so surprising twists, and the weirdness I am not at to explain yet. But the atmosphere was great, especially page 200 and beyond. It was very suspenseful and creepy, it had a very post-apocalyptic feel to it. And I enjoyed it very much.

I am looking forward to the next one in this trilogy.
