So boring and meandering! Could have been a good chunk shorter.

Thankyou Netgalley for the ARC !

I was very excited to read this because it's not everyday you get a sapphic vampire novel, but this one.... very much disappointing. I had to DNF at about 50%, mostly because the writing style was just. TERRIBLE.

Felt like a wattpad novel written by a 13yo.

I’m entering a reading funk right now, I can already tell. Might come back to this someday, when I want a slower paced lesbian vampire story. But that day is not today.

Beautiful and sapphic-comforting. I could see myself re-reading this in a year or so. It was a fun journey with gay vampires.

A long time dead follows the perspective of Poppy, a new vampire and her lover Roisin as they fight against their common enemy in order to stay together.

My favorite thing about the book are the character interactions. Every single relationship romantic or otherwise is complex and they all seem to care about each other no matter what difficulties they may face.

The way the romance Is written and developed in the book is exceptional. The chemistry between Poppy and Raisin is electric, and the way their relationship develops creates a palpable tension that keeps the reader engaged.

That being said my favorite quote from the book is “How am I meant to hunt her after this? How am I meant to wander when every part of everything I am wants to rest with you?”

Poppy is hilarious, and I promise you will find yourself laughing with her in every chapter she’s in. The relationships are not problematic so you can root for the main couple without any guilt. Overall, this is a satisfying book, with an amazing ending.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

It finally exists. This book is everything this genre has been falling short of for the past century and a half.

The pace is delicious, the prose decadent. Every character is presented as a fully-realized entity brimming with agency regardless of how little time we may get to spend getting to know them. No cut corners, and no wasteful rambling. Truly a stellar work of fiction, it far surpassed my expectations.
