no cause what the hell was this and why did i trust a tiktok to try it ???
i’m all for age gap but wow i was just not a fan of this. i wish i could blame it on the whole step daddy thing but no, it was 100% their relationship and stassia’s character. it’s been a hot minute since i’m actively writing this review in june but i remember vividly not being able to stand her character or how awkward their relationship was ?? it was either that or oh let’s jump each others bones now !!!
i feel very awkward writing this review myself since a lot of my mutuals enjoyed this book

I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did.
Considering it’s stepdaughter and stepdad taboo love story.
But omg
Dominic & Stassi are meant for eachother regardless of the circumstances. I devoured this book. I loved every part of it. I love the mini twist the QB Tyler seems to put in her books, the blackmail in this was not expected but oh my.
I can see myself reading more books by this author!

Stuck between 3 and 4 stars for this one. Was it taboo? Absolutely, but I knew that going into it. It really got off to a slow start though and there were definitely parts of it that were poorly written. Overall I enjoyed it though.
This love story took me completely by surprise for several reasons. Mostly for the strength of the FMC. I’m a huge fan of age gap/taboo, but this one stands out for the strong will and portrayal of the young heroine. She is feisty, independent and isn’t afraid to speak up. In certain situations, she is the most mature character in the room. The MC easily falls into one of my favorite types. Every word that comes out of his mouth will have you asking for more. *Yes, please!* Without getting spoilery, sources of conflict are pretty realistic. Seeing how these two navigate the circumstances they find themselves in is both heartbreaking and beautiful in turn. QB Tyler has taken one of my favorite genres and offered me new characters to love and root for a HEA for with this one.

If you love taboo, age-gap romances with a heavy dose of angst, Love Unexpected by QB Tyler delivers all that and more. This book explores the forbidden relationship between Dominic and Stassia—her stepfather—after the tragic passing of her mother. With just the two of them left behind, their grief intertwines with a slow-burning attraction that neither of them can ignore.
QB Tyler masterfully balances the emotional weight of loss with the intensity of their growing connection. The tension? Immaculate. The spice? Off the charts. And if daddy kink is your thing, you’re in for a treat. Their dynamic is both tender and explosive, making every stolen moment between them feel even more illicit.
And let’s talk about that plot twist—because whew. I had my suspicions about Stassia’s birth father, and let’s just say… trust your gut. The way it unfolds adds another layer of complexity to an already tangled situation.
If taboo romances aren’t for you, this one won’t be either. But if you love forbidden love stories that push boundaries while delivering deep emotional connections, Love Unexpected is a must-read.

I wanted to like this book. But there were so many things that bothered me, I don't even know where to begin.
First, they start with Stassia having this crazy crush on Dominic as a CHILD when she met him as a teacher at her elementary school. Her deciding she wants to marry him. Then he marries her mom when she is still a CHILD and basically becomes her father. Yes, I understand that he is her step-father, but when he acts as her father figure from a young age, he is basically her FATHER.
Next, I got whiplash from their relationship rollercoaster. It was like she has a crush on him. Then he becomes essentially her father. Then as she becomes a teenager he becomes an authority figure that she sees as her nemesis. Then he's the only support she seems to have in her grief. Then she's obsessed with him. And then they have this bizarre back and forth between hate and attraction and love. I don't even know. Whiplash. Majorly.
I can understand how feelings would develop in the wake of mutual grief, but it also kind of bothered me how quickly they went from grieving her mother/his wife to obsessing over each other. Maybe it really wasn't that quick. The book timeline was kind of difficult to follow. But it felt like it was way too quick to 1. make sense and 2. be healthy.
They did have chemistry. There's not denying that. And the writing was quality. And I didn't DNF. I wanted to know what happens next after every new development. So the author had me trapped in their clutches. So I guess that is something good to say about it.

I want to start by saying that this book is NOT going to be for everyone. As far as Taboo goes, this is pretty high on the scale, in my opinion. That being said, I found this very entertaining.
My only complaint is that I personally prefer my forbidden romance with a bit more "we can't" fight. I think I would have enjoyed it more if, instead of the relationship taking place a few months after Stacia mother's death, it happened many months if not a few years later.
This is extremely spicy and sexy. The smut is there. There is an obvious good girl X daddy kink happening. Is the relationship, especially the sexual relationship messed up and " wrong"? Yeah, probably. However, the taboo element really had me blushing.
