Love Unexpected

Q.B. Tyler

This was a hot, fun and taboo time.

QB Tyler really said, “set the taboo to 10 and the spice to 11!”

Was this book super spicy with some very hot scenes?
Yes

Was the love interest her stepfather who had raised her from age 10?
Also yes.

I normally don’t mind taboo or topics that toe the line, but there’s something that makes me feel just a teensy bit icked when the “step-father” isn’t someone who just showed up later in life. When it’s someone who’s watch them grow from childhood-adulthood it feels a bit more predatory, even though the mmc was not depicted as a predator.

The book was well written, i just struggled because of that.

It was interesting. I think it's a mid story, it reminded me a lot of Birthday Girl, and not in a good way. The story, the romance... everything was just ok, I feel like something else was missing.

Is this a joke ?

So wrong but so right

I walked into this one looking purely for a taboo read, but I was also hoping for a non-stupid plot and I’m glad I chose this one. Because this was very well done and did not feel like a taboo for the heck of it story, where characters make insane choices without rhyme or reason or repercussions. The characters have an actual understanding of the consequences of their actions. Of course they make some stupid decisions borne of love and lust like any humans, but mostly they use their brain cells.

I loved that Stassia is level headed and wise and confident of what she wants while showing a level of maturity beyond her years which makes this whole thing believable. I loved that Dominic is protective and territorial, but not aggressively so. I liked the little touches in the narrative designed to balance out their inherent imbalance of power, with no signs of grooming, and at no point did their developing relationship squick me out. Don’t get me wrong, it was filthy and wrong as all get out, but it gave me that dose of taboo without wanting the main characters to die because of their stupidity, and I am very happy about that.

Q.B Tyler definitely knows how to make taboos steamy and emotional. This one was tough to reconcile the dad/stepdaughter angle for a long time (and I am no stranger to age-gap, but usually in the form of dads best friend or ex’s dad, not stepdad). But there was no sugar coating the situation, which I did appreciate.
