I’d recommend this to anyone and everyone who loves their friends. I love their concepts of stretching and shine theory and their honesty throughout the book. Also recommend the audiobook. It was a warm and encouraging feeling to know I had the kind of friendship they were describing
Aminatou and Ann share the intimate details of the beginning and near ends of their friendship with research from relationship experts sprinkled throughout the book. This book does a great job of addressing specific challenges in relationships: long distance friendship, friendships with coworkers, interracial friendships, friendship when chronically ill, and interwoven friend webs. One of my favorite parts of the book talked about how pop culture has taught us that adult friendship looks like a core group of 4-6 people that know every detail about each other. This is an unsustainable ideal to live up to for most people. Big friendships are the active friendships that we choose everyday despite changing life circumstances, and even if you only have one, that's still an incredible thing to cherish.

Beautiful- made me want to hug each of my pls and be a better friend ❤️ truthful, loving, and sincere. So beautiful.
Wonderful book. I wish it had talked a little less about the intricacies of their friendship and more about friendship in general.
Really loved this look at a certain type of deep friendship as an intimate relationship on par with, but different from, a romantic relationship. The ideas of stretching for one another, and Shine Theory, particularly resonated for me.
I really value my friendships and I loved reading about friendship and the friendship between Aminatou and Ann. It was a good book to reflect on - to appreciate and examine my friendships and see how I could be a better friend as well
A book that talks about friendship, communication, and research on such topics? I'm in! I enjoyed this book--while certain parts felt slow to me, I genuinely enjoyed getting to read about how these two have journeyed through their friendship with one another and their insight/lessons learned. A sweet read.
I was skeptical when a friend gave me this for Christmas but I'm so glad she did. An honest and often heart wrenching account of how you need to work on friendship to keep it going and be there for each other. I will definitely be recommending to others

I was expecting more of a research-based book than one about 2 friends and their experiences. I appreciate their perspective, experiences, and thoughts on Big Friendship. I also heard of Shine Theory, but didn’t know it came from them. Overall, a solid 3 star book.
