Interesting writing style and perspectives. Makes me sad I have no best female friend.
I haven’t listened to their podcast but I throughly enjoyed this book. I went in not knowing much about the duo but wanting to learn more about the topic. This book had me reflect on my own friendships and brought up a lot of good points that I hope to put into effect. It was an easy read, easy to follow along, and definitely made me a fan of Aminatou and Ann!
3/5
I feel like I would have liked this book more if I was a fan of the authors, but it was a nice quick read that made me think of how grateful I am for my friends and a very real examination of how we treat our friendships.

reading big friendship by aminatou sow and ann friedman made me !!!!!! hella missing my girls!!!!!!!!!! so far this book seems like a really sweet testament to the authors’ intentional and enduring friendship, as well as a love letter to female friendships at large. a quick read, more of a testimony than a how-to guide/self-help book/sociological study, and might be esp interesting if you’re already a listener of their podcast, @callyrgf! not necessarily like a #mustread from me, but a cute reminder in this quarantine when all my friendships feel semi-long distance that you’ve gotta find creative new ways to keep each other close and really go to lengths to let the people in your life know how meaningful they are to you!

Just a lovely story about a specific friendship, with some compelling research thrown in. Friendship is not given its due in society. I'm actually going to review the notes and look into some of the sources used, because the scholarship out there on friendship is interesting and important.
Audiobook. Not exactly what I was looking for but interesting read nevertheless. Since getting divorced 12 years ago I’ve given a lot of thought to the concept of friendship. The authors have interesting things to say about interracial friendships, and the priority or lack of priority that we place on friendships over other things in our lives. Definitely food for thought.
Less self help and more memoir of a friendship, Big Friendship describes those friendships that are “too big to fail.” Ann and Aminatou take us on the journey of their friendship, from meet-cute to present day, sharing how they worked to keep their relationship alive through career changes, romantic partners, health scares and pent up conflict. While Ann and Aminatou aren’t giving you a specific playbook of what you should do in a friendship, their book speaks to those of us who strive to work at their friendships and feel like you’re not alone in the challenges you experience in cultivating long-lasting Big Friendships. I particularly liked this audiobook, as both authors switched back and forth narrating, giving you the feeling like you’re curled up with your own friends listening to their story.
I loved this. So refreshing to read about deep, long-lasting friendships and their joys and struggles. It has story, research, and vocabulary for relationships. I want all of my friends to read it.
This book made me think about a lot. It made me think about how much stretching it takes to keep in long-term friendship. It made me think about how important that is. And we think about how much work it takes to have an intimate friendship. It made me come to terms with the friendships I’ve lost. It was so good.
This book was really hard for me to read at first. As someone going through Big Friendship growing pains, I was so jealous and sad reading the beginning of how easy it was for Anne and Amina in the early years of their friendship. But it was so powerful to get to the harder stuff, and glean so many insights in how to navigate these feelings.
