Now I'm a big fan of pirates and I loved the Muppet adaptation of this story but I just found it an incredibly difficult book to get in to.
Some of the dialogue proved difficult reading- you always have to have a pirate accent going through your head, helps it make more sense!- and I thought it just dragged on a little bit. There were a few really good moments- I loved the beginning with Billy Bones and the siege at the island stockade as well as the duel on the ship between Jim Hawkins and Israel Hands... But those few, exciting chapters couldn't quite make up for the other, not so exciting ones.
Maybe if I were younger and still held a huge fancy for such swashbuckling tales of adventure with a fellow young narrator, I would have enjoyed it more- I can see why this proves good reading in schools- but sadly it wasn't meant to be.
Treasure Island may be a literary classic, but it is one that I doubt I shall revisit myself.

 Fun, Adventurous, classic.

There’s nothing to be said about Treasure Island that hasn’t been said a thousand times before. Cultural osmosis has probably already taught you everything there is to know about this book, but it’s still a fun read.

Many modern ideas of swashbuckling pirates were built on the foundations laid down by Treasure Island. This means that modern readers won’t be surprised when a pirate acts greedy or commits a betrayal. You will probably be able to predict the entire plot right from the moment the book starts. However, the adventure is still exciting and the characters have some great banter.

If you are an audiobook user, you could easily listen to this whilst doing other tasks without much risk of missing out on anything.
