So begins the journey to The One Impossible Labyrinth with this, the first ever Matthew Reilly book that was published. Matthew is most probably my biggest inspiration of terms of authors, and if I can be half as successful as he, then it will be a good life.

Matthew Reilly's books will usually fall into types of story, action thriller or strange creatures, or a mix of both. This falls into strange creatures with a bit of action thrown in. Definitely not what I was expecting when I picked up this to read. Dr Stephen Swain having a normal day suddenly, and I do mean suddenly, finds himself in contest where you come out alive or you come out dead. There is no in between and only one of the 7 contestants will come out alive. His opponents, however, are not of this world and unlike Stephen they know what is happening and why. Stephen is flying blind except for the help of a 4 foot high guide who's life is also on the line.

Not what I was expecting but an enjoyable fast paced read. This is Matthew Reilly's first novel, self published.
