Loved the male lead but the female lead was a struggle .. unlikeable characters in a romance make it tough

I have been following this author on tiktok for a long time because of her dogs and a friend recommend I read this series and my god. The fact I haven't yet is such a travesty.

Both of the main protagonists were compelling and well written. Despite having completely different family legacies to live up to, both are explained well and shared through the book. I just wished they communicated this a bit better to each other but alas they never do. Their character development was handled very well, especially when it comes to Alexis' arc about her as an abuse victim. Daniel is an opposite of the coin but written just as well. Despite having the threat of his whole life being ripped out underneath him by one person, he perseveres and manages to stay strong and figure out a plan. Daniel introduces a level of kindness and softness that Alexis never got to know in her life and it was a blessing. "Grace costs you nothing." is a great line and definitely going to be part of my lexicon.

There was a little incotinuity with the discussions on what they wanted out of a relationship. At one point Daniel says he wants to be Alexis' boyfriend and then several chapters left she still wants clarification on if it was a 'sex thing' for him. A little irksome but I just chopped it up to her anxiety revolving this relationship.

The side characters were also very compelling and well written on both sides. Bri is a friend I would die for. While Alexis doesn't have many people in her lives that she seems to care for an get affection in return, having this character was very important to her life. Doug was also a well written character. I figured I would hate him after the first chapter but he grew into a great friend. Him coming over to help Daniel with his dick pic is one of my new favorite scenes in a book.

Highly recommend this to people looking for a similar style to Emily Henry.
