I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. my heart hurts from both pain and joy and this is the kind of romance i loveee oh my god

First love Take Two takes place right after the Trouble with Hating You. With the focus on Preeti and her ex Daniel. Who become roommates thanks to the handy work of their friend Liya.

This novel i quite enjoyed reading. It is very character driven I feel with Preeti and Daniel as the leads who are very cute together. The novel also deal with themes of mental health, anxiety and racism which I think were very well done and explored very well in the novel. I like that Sajni Patel explores serious themes in her books and at the same time also explores the lives and relationships of her characters, it makes them very human. With these experiences the characters stand up for their relationships to their families and are ready to always stand by each other no matter what their communities think of their union which I loved. They both love each other and it was never about race or culture for them. But it drove them away the first time due to family commitments. Which became hard on both of them and they won’t able to talk about it to anyone. Especially Preeti who kept everything to herself.

I’m happy they reunited in the end and stand by each other. I would love to see if there will be another book following with Sana. I would be very interested with where her story goes.

So I was pretty into this for a bit, but Preeti got to be insufferable. She cries constantly. Everything is so angst and drama filled.

Weirdly paced. 200 pages before they kiss, and then suddenly they’re a done deal. Swoony in the beginning, but then falls off.

I've been craving a second-chance romance. So I was excited to dive into this one, as it had been circulating on TikTok. I don't ask for a lot when it comes to romance novels: some angst, longing is all.

But alas, it was a big miss for me.

The writing was subpar, with some cheesy metaphors and too much "telling"—this is something I'm noticing with many of the contemporary romances I picked up recently. Another miss in terms of the writing was that the main protagonist's inner dialogue made her sound like she was 15, not an adult who is a doctor. She came off naive and child-like. I appreciated the discussions around mental health and anti-Blackness racism, but they were too surface level, with limited nuance.

If this story represents second-chance romance storylines, then I am 100% certain I have been craving something different. There was little angst, very little (believable) longing. Also, the two lovers were apart for 6 years. But as readers, we never experienced that period of grief, which would've made their relationship more realistic and relatable.

All in all, I was not a fan with this novel. It wasn't the worst book I've read but it's certainly not the best.
