Oh my lanta. Such an intense book. Everything that could go wrong/can go wrong. Deep character turmoil. Development. Plot. World Building. So much happened in this book and I loved exploring it. I loved that we saw the characters working through despair and pain and seeing it and feeling it. So well done. Can't wait to get my hands on the last book.

Highly enjoyed this book as well though it feels a bit too much like the exposition for #4? But: Drama, jinn, ghosts, betrayal. Emotional rollercoaster.
This book is the definition of pain but the type you like. My jaw fell several times to the floor. There were tears on pages. This book is evil, read it.
Not as good as the last one. I found I was getting tired of it so hopefully the next one is better!

In case it hasn’t been clear enough, I would sacrifice my body and soul for Helene Aquilla.
This is my favorite in the series, Helene and Laia have such intriguing story arcs - the way their characters progress and grow over the series is incredible. I’ve loved watching their journeys.
There is no doubt that Tahir knows how to write compelling and dynamic characters. No one in this series is black and white. It’s a sea of various shades of gray - ever changing degrees of good and bad. The way these characters grow and develop, and the way Tahir expands this world from the first book is truly magical. She’s also pretty sneaky and cruel with those plot twists - always keeping me on the edge of my seat.
So, we all know I’m obsessed with Helene. I could have read this entirely from her point of view and been more than happy (actually if you’re listening Sabaa I would do anything for a book solely about Helene). Her internal struggle, her duty, her heart, her loyalty and love and sacrifice... she’s a phenomenal character and one of my favorite heroines of all time. I could sing Helene’s praises all freaking day.
Laia at times frustrates the hell out of me with her poor decision making skills, but her character growth and fiery spirit are intoxicating. She’s growing and changing every day, but she’s also so fucking stubborn I wanted to shake some sense into her a few times.
Elias’ path on the other hand..... it frustrates me. I’m intrigued to see where this final book takes him but I found myself bored through most of his chapters. I’m sure this will play a bigger role in the final book, but at the moment I’m sick of the Waiting Place and Mauth’s bullshit.
I’m terrified to start the last book and have this journey come to an end. I finished this last night and despite spending the last few weeks dying to read the final book I find myself hesitating to bring this journey to an end. These books feel like they contain the entire weight of an unknown world. They’re intense, dense, emotional and turbulent but also mesmerizing and powerful. I’m not ready for it to end and I’m even less prepared for whatever endings lay in store for my favorite characters.

So much plot. So much character development. Slightly too much angst but I have a very low tolerance for it. Audio is AMAZING—I listened every chance I got. Unlike other series, jumping back in was seamless. Cannot wait for book 4.
