This book made me cry. I really feel hopeless and crushed, like our main characters do.

It all comes back to love and hope. The Name, the actions, the motivations.

Good

Oh. Holy Crap! This book!! This amazing book! This very talented young lady...Sabaa Tahir you are stupid with talent! I don't have much else to say about the actual book, because those of you who have read it know that it is no-holds-barred fan-freaking-tastic joy in print. And those who have not read it need to do so, like, immediately.

Omgggggggg.

That's all.

Sabaa Tahir is such a talented writer. Just an incredible author who has created characters and a world that any YA fantasy reader can fall in love with. A Reaper at the Gates is a brilliant sequel to An Ember in the Ashes and A Torch Against the Night, and I cannot wait to see how the series wraps up with book #4.

Write faster, Sabaa...

(Just kidding. Please take your time and give us the ending we crave! Thank you for these delightful characters and beautiful tale!)

My head hurts from crying so much. I don't know why I let Ms. Sabaa Tahir continue to rip my heart out but I digress. This book was amazing. That's all the coherent thoughts I have for now. I will be back later for a full review.

Ok, I have had time to process and get my bearings and this is what I have to say.

I loved this book. I thought I had set my expectations too high, but Sabaa Tahir never disappoints.

I am in fact still in love with Elias Veturius, but that doesn't make me any less mad at him for what happened at the end of the book.

Laia is such a strong character and I love her determination to save her people.

And OMG Helene. I didn't care for Helene in the first two books, but in this one, she was a force to be reckoned with. I loved watching her fight her sister and the future of her family, but also her loyalty to her family.

I really liked Musa. I thought he was a good person for Laia to meet because she has never met another person with powers (besides Helene but they never really on the same side). I think it helped her see some of the consequences of magic, but also let her know that she wasn't alone.

I hope I wasn't the only one but when Marcus died. I cried. Am I proud? No, the man was absolutely psychotic. But those final moments with his baby and seeing him in the Waiting Place with his brother. TEARS.

And OMG Cook. I did not see that one coming. I hope we see her one more time in [b:A Sky Beyond the Storm|31520883|A Sky Beyond the Storm (An Ember in the Ashes, #4)|Sabaa Tahir|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1583169878l/31520883._SY75_.jpg|52201861], but who knows.

But now for some general anger...
Mauth can SMD
The Nightbringer can SMD
Keris Veturia can SMD
And you know what Shaeva too.

Now for some love...
Laia and Elias obviously
Helene
Cook (I am still crying)
Zacharias Marcus Livius Aquillus Farrar (I hope you live a long life. It doesn't seem to be a theme in your family)

Overall I loved this book. So much. I'm not ready for the series to end. 5 stars

******Is it just me or do I still not trust Harper?? Could just be me.

Fav Quote(s):
"'You've never been a liar.' She dashes her hands against the wetness in her eyes. 'Don't start now.'"
"Come back to me, Laia...Your people need you. Your brother needs you. I need you."
"If I seem different, remember that I love you. No matter what happens to me."
"I love you, L-L-Laia."

Devastating and excellent. Already devouring the final AEITA installment and terrified for how this will end
