Big fan, every time I think of my next book club pick I just want to throw this back into the ring. Truly I laughed and I cried and as soon as the audiobook was over I drove in silence for a few minutes.

In Five Years
by Rebecca Serle

This is not the love story you might expect. Dannie has her life planned down to the last detail—her dream job, the perfect apartment, and even a proposal on the horizon. But one night she falls asleep and wakes up five years in the future… in a different home, with a man she doesn’t know. When she wakes back in her present life, she can’t shake the memory of that vision. Five years later, she meets the man from that dream, and he’s dating her best friend. This isn’t a love story. It’s a friendship story.

What follows is a heartfelt exploration of friendship, fate, and the unexpected turns life can take. This book isn’t about romance. It's about the relationships that truly anchor us.

I was surprised by how much this one moved me. It’s emotional, tender, and at times heartbreaking. Serle writes in a way that makes you reflect on love, destiny, and how fragile time really is.

✨ Perfect if you enjoy: emotional reads, best-friend stories, and novels that stay with you long after the last page.

The reviewers were right, this is a read-in-one-sitting book. I really liked trying to discover how the storyline would play out and watching to see if I was right. I always love Rebecca Serle’s work, this story was no different!

I liked the way that she tied the ending up with Bella dying before Dannie slept with Aaron/Greg, and I also liked that they didn’t begin a relationship and she goes to presumably date the doctor. I feel like it was much less clichĆ© than I thought it would be especially once we meet Aaron/Greg as Bella’s boyfriend. Nice job Rebecca Serle!

This was a quick read and I was really into it, but it took a turn at the 50% mark that I was not thrilled about.
Spoiler One of the characters gets cancer and that becomes a major plot point for the rest of the book.
The idea of the book is that a very successful lawyer has her life all planned out, but then she is thrust forward to spend an hour in her life five years in the future and it is nothing like what she has pictured for herself. Things get more complicated when her ā€œfutureā€ shows up in an unexpected way in the present. It was intriguing but because of some open door scenes and
Spoilerthe unexpected focus on cancer
, I’m only giving it 3 stars.

(Maybe 2.5 Stars) I’m so surprised that I didn’t like this book. It was one I’d been looking forward to reading, but honestly it was just boring. I loved Bella and their friendship. Other than the Bella getting sick, this book really just didn’t make me feel anything. It was a surprise, but I didn’t expect that to be the entire story. I understand how Dannie’s ā€˜love story’ wasn’t about the men but more her best friend, but still wasn’t too impressed!!
