I just could not get into it, at all.

The story is absolutely excellent, a grand ballad-like sci-fi drama.
That said, when I got to the end and the author revealed they were 16-18 while writing this a lot suddenly made sense. The plot may be wonderful, but all the characters who get swept along in the narrative feel flat by comparison. Their actions and emotions bordering on cliché and at times confusing.
I am fascinated to see what this author does next as their writing skills develop.

I’m so so so torn about this book because there were moments I really really loved and then others where I was so so lost and got so confused :// I think maybe it’s bc I’m more a fantasy girlie than a sci-fi one, so maybe I’ll reread when I’ve read more sci-fi!!

dnf. seems like it would be enjoyable to a YA audience

for some reason I didn't realize this was the first part of a trilogy and thought wow so much will still have to happen, but now the pacing makes much more sense

very well written, I am especially invested in Obi and George (who's surprised?)

anyway Asha is a badass and I love her too
