I really liked this book and I wished people would talk about it more. It's mostly characters and relationships driven which I loved.
But I found the plot kind of overwhelming.

In 6066, Asha is in slavery to a tyrant know as Thracin. A masked stranger approaches her and changes everything she thought she knew.
In 1812, Obi is in love with a prince, and slowly dying from a temporal sickness caused by his time traveling. His soul is in London though, and this where he wishes to stay. Until a ghost pulls him back into the future.
Prophesy and fate intertwine in bringing two star crossed heroes together to save the universe.
This book has it all: dual timelines, historical fiction married up with science fiction, prophesy and chosen ones, found family, love and LGBT representation.
I really enjoyed this book in that quiet sort of way where you're heading to the end and then you turn the last page and suddenly realize what a journey you have been on. I actually realized a few pages before and put off the final chapter because I really don't want to wait for the sequel.
I loved the world building and the variety of species that inhabited the universe. It was so diverse; the archivist was probably my favorite alien on account of the weirdness. This was all paired with London in the early nineteenth century, completely normal except for the hints at time travel. The two timelines complimented each other really well.
The characters were strong and likeable. I really liked Prince George, and how he didn't shy away from his fear and lack of understanding, but embraced everything thrown at him. His relationship with Obi felt so pure and beautiful.
The book took a moment to get going, introducing instead Thracin's war and quest for dominance across the galaxy. There were a couple of threads I felt were left hanging, but there are two more books to come so I'm hoping everything will come together soon.

A young time traveller is pulled from one point in time and place to meet a strong, willful kid. Together their lives are pulled in unexpected ways as an ancient prophecy comes to fruition.
This book feels like a prequel. We are introduced to worlds, politics and histories. It is all quite overwhelming, and it is unavoidable to explain so much without slowing down the pace of the story. Much of the explaining and describing could be condensed or deleted to make the book more readable, but it is all well written.
There are typos scattered throughout the book, if that sort of thing gets to you. Also, much of the book is descriptive rather than guttural, which does create some distance between reader and story.
Overall, it's a lovely read. Though it's slow at times, the plot is gripping, and the writing is lovely.

Poorly written, confusing, and just not interesting.
I tried. There are plot holes. The only LGBTQIA+ rep is a tragic gay troupe. Gender diversity is non existent even amongst aliens. It is partially historical but the prince is made up? There are also a lot of conveniences to move the story along. I wanted to love this so I pushed longer then I normally would have.
