Really like a 2.75. I read it all but not without a lot of eye rolls. It’s predictable but sweet, written in a super simple style.

Not my usual type of read; I chose the book for a lighthearted, fast paced Christmas book. Little did I know this was not going to be that. So much drama, and family trauma. I almost DNF, but I trudged through the audio version at 2.5 speed and finished.

Great Read

This was an enjoyable read. It has been a long time since I have read a book by this author. First time reading a Christmas book by her. In this book, we were introduced to Julie Parker. She was ready to spend Christmas with her much younger boyfriend, Heath when her kids decided that they do not want to have their big Christmas. However, when her son, Nick, and daughter, Dana, decide that they would like to have Christmas at the family cabin in honour of their dad, she cannot refuse. As the story continues, we start to see the family open up as more family and friends come to the cabin. Julie remembers that more is merrier, and that love can be shared in times like these. I thought this book was great, but I did think that there were parts that were boring. The characters were great. I thought Julie was sweet, loving, and smart. I thought the family dynamic was sweet. I really enjoyed the story and the ending. I hope that I can read more books by Susan Mallery. Overall, a great read.

I was out on this book from the moment I read “rats titty,” about 3 chapters in. I love a good family drama, but this book was poorly written, and lacked the juiciness or the fun characterization that I expect from a family drama. The ending also just didn’t do it for me.
