I'm iffy on the rating, it may changw once I sit with it for a bit.

I was hoping for more peaks and valleys in the action. It delivered something that was a more dribble of action, one big crest then a slow rolls down. The cruise seemed more background then a catalyst for anything. It felt very underserved in the overall structure of the plot. I guess I was expecting more slapstick comedy than what I got. So many things happen on cruise that could have created some actual laugh out loud hilarity. The plot could have been lifted from the cruise boat and put into any remote destination with similar results.

With that being said, I really enjoyed the overarching storyline. It may have been a bit on the neat side but it felt real...as real as a fictional dysfunctional family can feel really. Families are messy, people aren't 100% likable and it's easy to get comfortable in your own comfort zone.

P.S. The cruise atmosphere description felt more skewed in the negative light than what I personally experienced on cruises. It is definitely something that can be an overwhelming experience. Large groups of people usually are but I've always encountered courteous fellow cruisers who line up and are patient at the ice cream. The food is 9 times out of 10 phenomenal and the space you have is what you make of it. This probably shaded my review a little. Just a little fyi.

Would you survive on a cruise with your family that you haven’t spent time with in over a decade?

I read this book while on vacation with my whole immediate family, and thought it was the perfect timing to read it. I personally LOVE all the family time I can get!!

I thought this book started off a little slow, as you were starting to get to know all the characters. Once you get into it, it’s a really great book!

This book has all the family drama that you can imagine. Each member of the family has something going on in their lives, that no one else knows about. This book follows all the family members, so you get all their point of views too.

This book is light hearted and funny, and does tackle some real life issues, lightly. I think this is a great read, it’s quick and easy. This story is very fun and relatable. I would suggest adding it to your summer reading list!!

Dysfunctional family drama! Dysfunctional family members learning how to get along each other! All aboard the cruise ship from Hell. The Feldmans don’t speak to one another unless they’re forced too and matriarch Annette Feldman is determined to get her entire family on board a cruise ship to reconnect with one another in time for her 70th birthday party. Man-child (and successful weed entrepreneur) Freddy still nurses the inferiority complex that his family gave him, despite the millions in his bank account and the hot, young girlfriend. Elise is a soccer mom with a shopping addiction fearing empty nest syndrome, now that her daughter Rachel has gone to college and son Darius is on his way married to Mitch. Each of these Feldman’s has a secret-and stuck on a boat, these secrets, resentments and drama is about to come out in a BIG way. I love gossip and petty family dramas. The second I sniff some out, I’m like a truffle pig. I will go straight to the source and dig it all out. This book was like watching a Facebook drama unfold before my very eyes and I loved it. Every moment was trashy yet fun.

This story is true to what we see in a big family. Expectations, despair, secrets, misunderstanding, land up turning a family into a bunch of strangers.
The characters are so true to home, it felt that they are me or the next-door neighbour. Overwhelmed with empty-nest syndrome Annette becomes a beauty buff and her daughter Elise a shopaholic. This is so common among at-home mothers. Teens find themselves in a different world thereby distancing themselves from family, even siblings. This difference often grows up to adulthood in the form of ego.
So beautifully have the characters been sketched that the story does not seem fictional at all. An eye-opener to the fact that how much ever we deny, at the end of the day we need our family, our dear and near ones.

This book contained great storylines and the characters we very relatable. Everyone has something they keep hidden from their family to preserve their “role”. What happens when they had to share the truth shows family is forever and will be there for each other.
