We listen and we don’t judge… This book was insane. Make sure you check the trigger warnings before you read this. This was dark and the spice was crazy, I don’t even know how you could even dream up these scenarios. Overall I loved the characters and I’m a sucker for vampire books. The characters are the only reason that this got 4 stars for me because I liked how unique each character was and how well they worked together.

COURT OF NIGHTMARES 🖤🕷️

I still don't know how to feel about this book. I loved den & vipers and thought it would bring the same vibes but with a dark fantasy aspect. WOO well let me tell you it did but it also didnt live up to my expectations. There was more smut than plot but we like that around here sometimes 🫣

Court of Nightmares is a RH. You get introduced to Althea (Thea) the FMC, right off the gate. She lives in a world filled with supernaturals. As vamps, society and mates are all they know. She was born from one of the most powerful seers but can't seem to harness the powers she was given. Because she was destined for something bigger. But one day her mate denies her and she goes through lots of trauma & loses her humanity for a bit. Later on, She gets thrown into a life with 7 blood kings (yes i said 7!!!) who judge the morally corrupt in the Court of Nightmares. ALSO who wouldn't want to be worshipped like these men do to Althea?! The smut was steaminggg but there was also some questionable smut at times (but who am i to kink judge 😂)

Overall, this book was HOT if you want a quick smutty read after reading a big book. And i loved getting to read all of the kings stories and how they came to be as a blood king.

Tropes

It might not be for everyone, but I definitely loved it, although there were a couple of things I was waiting on like her favor owed to the dragon that didn't show up in the book and more time with Zale's monster. 7 people is a lot to juggle and still be good, so that was pulled off pretty well, in my opinion. Azul, Nathair, Connell, lycus, Osis, Zale, and Reve all worshipped her which was a nice change from my typical books where the men are OTT possessive and dominating to a female who's weak and submissive depending on her man/men for everything while not being able to help herself. Althea was powerful to the point it felt easy after the judges killed her and she came back but at the same time I enjoyed that too. There was anticipation for some things but it didn't feel very angst filled which I needed given this is the longest book I've read in awhile.

Gave this 4 stars because it doesn’t deserve to be 3 but also wasn’t an all time fav to give it 5. It’s a good book, don’t get me wrong, but not my favorite. I think the reason is bc the FMC has 7 mates, and while they were drool worthy that’s just a lot to keep up with. I found myself forgetting about multiple of them and getting confused a lot. This was downright erotica lmao but I actually enjoyed the plot! Great storyline, loveable main characters, and smut that will leave you wide eyed and panting!

this is a perfect example of a book being good for what it is. the spice was good the relationships were good. The plot however, was a little lacking. There were a lot of parts that felt completely unnecessary and my experience would’ve been no different if not better had they not been included. I feel like the plot could’ve used a little bit more emphasis and a little bit less emphasis on the sex. At a certain point the sex just got boring because it kept happening all the time and it kept happening the same way. There were also some parts in the dialogue that felt so out of place it made me sick. These characters, dress in old tiny outfits and very elegantly, and they’re all in this sort of hierarchical matriarchal setting. and then all of a sudden the main character goes “get it bestie“? no. Absolutely terrible. You can write a book that’s relatable and not have to include cringe Social media type speech.

and then finally at the end the last probably 10 to 15 chapters were completely unnecessary.
After their party, and after she met her dad, they could’ve just had the coronation and let the book fucking end.
But instead, the author decided to include seven more chapters of her, just having sex with each individual king. And I get that this is a romance I get it is a spicy smutty book but I appreciate they’re still being taste when it comes to dark romance.  That is my biggest criticism of this genre is authors, focus so much and not enough on the actual structure of the book and development of the plot.

I will say, despite all of my criticisms, that I did appreciate the fact that this book was written, like a book, not like a fanfic. That is another major issue I have with this genre is that they’re written by 12-year-old girls who have never read a real book in their life.  HD Carlton and certain other authors can write really good dark romance that still read like a book with a plot that has depth and characters that are written very well. I feel like this author has the potential to write like HD Carlton, however, she’s not there yet.

This book started off not great, with the Mary sue perfect main character and the seven handsome men lusting after her, and then just went down the rails. Also, I was like 2/3 of the way through and they had done maybe one thing about their mission. Mostly, they just had a lot of sex.
