Few of the things I really liked about the book was the way the reveal was done for the different people. It wasn’t an overblown cringe worthy moment for all involved. The foster parents had the “most reaction” but it was believable. I was afraid she would tell him, they would fight blah blah two chapters later everyone is back together.

What I didn’t like was how quickly they got together. Also a lot of sex scenes that I skipped over since I was listening at work.

I think if this book was 200 pages longer, and therefore the character development had more time to really stew, I would have enjoyed this a lot more. The plot is bananas and nothing could ever fix that, plus there's definite inherent xenophobic bias on Novak's part.

It just all felt too rushed to justify anything higher than a 2.25 - and I think that's generous and just because I enjoyed how wild the plot points were. But so much of the philosophy of this book was not okay.

I want so badly to give it a 3, but it was such a snooze fest. The ending was super rushed, everything was tied up in 5%.

Wonderfully written. Fabulous book! Loved it! It's a keeper.

Brenda Novak has gifted us with another masterpiece. I think this series is going to be just as great as her other ones. One of my favorite things about her books is that she never side-steps difficult topics and situations. She faces them head-on, and does it very well. While Cora's plan to get to know her biological mother seemed kind of deceptive, she had my full support, and it made a fantastic story. This is the kind of thing I love about Novak's writing. She sometimes blurs the lines and puts the characters in to some gray areas. Eli was a great character. He was so well-written, and so complex. Seeing how he felt about things, and why he felt that way was interesting and heartbreaking, and made me love him even more. I want to know more about Silver Springs, so I can't wait for the next book to come out. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

A wonderful first book in the Silver Springs series by Brenda Novak!

Cora has questioins about her birth parents and pursues them against her adoptive parents wishes. She is able to find her birth mother and applies to teach at the boys' boarding school she runs. Wondering why her mother gave her up while she has adopted several boys, Cora falls for the son who helps run the school.

Rounded up because I liked the self forgiveness.
