3.7 AVERAGE

Cora Kelly is trying to find some closure in her life. She wants to know more about her birth mother and thinks that working at the boarding school her mother runs. But Aiyana Turner wasn't the one to hire Cora, instead, it was one of her 8 (!) adoptive sons, Elijah. A man who Cora is desperately attracted to.
Eli has some past issues of his own. He might have been adopted by Aiyana but the beginning of his life wasn't exactly tea and roses. We don't actually get a full description of what his life was like which was sort of disappointing. There are glimpses of his current relationship with his birth mother but no resolution.
This is a wonderful Novak story but suffers from a few things -- this is a world building story so we don't get as much time with the main characters, we get to see a lot of the physical relationship with Cora and Eli (why are so many authors into sex in public places right now? Is this the new thing in romance novels?) but not as much of the emotional, there is a nice use of condoms in the beginning and some discussion of alternate means of birth control but no discussion of STIs as if condoms were only used as a mean to prevent pregnancy but nothing else.
This isn't one of Novak's super-emotional stories that rips your hearts and guts out but I still think regular readers will enjoy.

Loved reading this book! So sweet, though I did start No One But You before I started this one!

Such a sweet romance.

3.5 stars

I was super excited to win this book in a Goodreads giveaway! Every day I ran to check the mail to check for it until it finally came! I love Brenda Novak stories so I couldn’t wait to dig into this one.

Before I get into my review of the book, can we take a moment to talk about that cover? Gorgeous! The colors and composition just make me happy. I’ve seen the cover for the next book in the series and it’s just as vibrant.

I was a little surprised when I discovered this book is only around 200 pages. Just because most of this author’s books tend to be closer to 400 pages. Because of the length relationship between Cora and Elijah accelerates pretty quickly. Yet it makes sense. Plus, they acknowledge how fast things are going. Really, Cora and Eli are great with each other and seem to fit.

It was a bit odd to me that at one point I felt as though Cora was dragging out her secret a bit too long considering I found the book to be on the short side. But as she says (to herself) at one point, there is not good time to drop such a secret on people you care about. I love the reaction Eli has when she does finally come clean, it’s a bit different than would be expected.

There are quite a few things throughout this story that had me on edge. Mostly because I kept waiting for Cora’s secret to come out at a very inconvenient time. I couldn’t stand her ex-boyfriend and he was my greatest point of anxiety. Everything I kept expecting to happen didn’t happen so I was kept on my toes. I have to admit I was constantly trying to figure out why Cora’s birth mother, Aiyana, gave her up for adoption. The more we get to know her the more it doesn’t make sense. Trust me, it is not what you think! But it absolutely makes sense once you know the truth.

One thing that I found was a bit too skimmed over is Eli’s relationship with his birth mother. It doesn’t seem to me that was fully explored. Plus, the personality of the woman leads me to believe things would not be resolved at this point. I guess it’s a possibility that we’ll see something of that particular relationship in later books, but somehow, I doubt it. It bothers me that I feel that situation is still very much up in the air.

From what I can tell, there will be another three books in this series released in 2017. They’re all much longer books and don’t all seem to deal with the New Horizons Boys Ranch, although they are all set in the town of Silver Springs. That makes me hopeful that we’ll be seeing more of Eli’s brothers.

Meh

Meh, ok book, not my favorite.

Can you say complicated? Finding Our Forever sets up Brenda Novak’s newest series, Silver Springs, in a most compelling way by redefining family and delving into character’s dark pasts to set them on their path to a happy future.

‘As normal as he came off, every once in a while there was something in his eyes that reminded her of an animal that’d been beaten so often it growled or showed its teeth even when someone tried to be kind.’

Every time I read a novel by Brenda Novak I’m wowed by how much she puts her characters through, how hard they have to work for their HEA. And I love that fact. Finding Our Forever was definitely the same, with the complex situation Cora and Elijah were in and with his horrific childhood still haunting him. I will caution that although the overall tone was upbeat, the glimpses we had of the abuse Elijah suffered as a child might be a bit intense or a trigger for some readers.

This Is book one in the Silver Springs series and it features Cora Kelly and Elijah Turner. This is a story that began long ago with pain and betrayal and has morphed into a story of love and healing. The relationship between Cora and Eli quickly became something I wasn't expecting. And Matt? He was just irritating! The whole situation with Aiyana was more dramatic than I thought it would be and over much too fast. Time flies by rather quickly while reading, which is what happens when you're deeply entrenched in a great story. I wish it lasted longer.

I'm very excited to get to know the other characters and extremely curious to watch how the stories unfold in this new series.

Probably more like a 2.5. I read book 2 in this series and it was insane so I was expecting similar Lifetime movie melodrama but it was more of a quiet story and the issues, I thought, were worked out a little too easily. I also thought the romance moved a little too quickly for my taste. But who am I kidding I'm gonna read the other books the series nonetheless. I just hope they're more like book 2! This book is short, sweet, and still has a little bit of that angsty drama that this series possesses.

The start of a new series for Brenda Novak that is off to a good start. She does the setting so that you feel as if you are there and makes you connect with the characters. She touches on some tough subjects that make you think as a good book should. Will be looking for the next book in the series. This book can be read as a stand alone but will want to see what happens with some of the secondary characters in the next books.
