I am a die hard morbid girlie and I have been WAITING to read this book. Reading the reviews I was shocked at how much negativity there was against it. Its true there was a LOT of deep forensic info in it that made it less enjoyable for some readers that didn’t quite understand or have interest in that knowledge but is that not the most Alaina thing ever? I personally liked the plot but got confused at a few parts when the twists happened, it felt like I had to reread a few parts to actually understand it all. It’s her FIRST ever published book. I understand that with how loved the podcast is everyone expected perfection from Capricorn Alaina but there is more to come and I cannot wait to read them all. The cliff hanger ending has me impatiently waiting for the next TinyURL to drop so I can get the next one.

For me this book was a hard read. Positives: It did give a fast paced mystery that made me want to finish the book but reading the view of the killer felt graphic and unnecessary with more misogynistic commentary than I care to read. I also didn’t appreciate that it wasn’t obvious that this book is part of a trilogy from the cover or book blurb and you don’t realize that until you reach the cliff hanger at the end. The characters felt underdeveloped and the main character is a medical examiner but she goes on expeditions with the police and is heavily involved in the detective work on the case which felt too unrealistic. Overall it read more like the authors fanfic (she is a medical examiner with a true crime podcast in real life) which is totally okay if you’re looking for a quick but maybe kinda corny mystery read that evolves into two more books.
