Ported over from my Goodreads:

It'd be hard to choose, but I think this is my favourite book, ever. Gloriously irreverent, packed full of jokes and humour, endlessly quotable, and able to make some quite profound points about life and philosophy when it has the time around the edges.

A book in which every other sentence is brilliantly witty. The plot jumps from character to character and between storylines effortlessly. Love the modern imagining of the Four Horsemen (although Pestilence definitely made a comeback in 2020...) and every moment we spend with Azriaphael and Crowley is fantastic.

Unfortunately some parts haven't aged well - there was a surprising amount of racism, homophobia and just general mean-spiritedness.

This book is wonderful. I can’t believe it took me until now to read it.

The story is simultaneously hilarious and asks very important questions about good vs evil, humanity and politics, and it presents some compelling observations about religion.

Aziraphale and Crowley are easily now among my all-time favourite characters, especially as a duo. They play off each other so well. The nuance in their actions is everything.

Having been published in 1990, there are definitely parts of the book that did not age well, and for that reason my stance is that the TV show is better than the book, since it gives us more Aziraphale and Crowley and none of the jarring language.

TW: homophobia, racism, fatphobia

Already past 60% and not feeling it. The start was good. However, after they started introducing all these side characters, it was hard to follow and didn’t feel like it was going anywhere. Even the Armageddon chapter (which takes 6 hours to get through) is tedious. I wasn’t a fan of the rambly, scattered writing style either. As a non-Brit, most of the humor and references were lost on me.

I wanted to read this book as soon as possible as it is the book that inspired my favourite show. I enjoyed it while listening to the audiobook at the same time. The only issue is that some parts were unnecessarily long or didn't need to be included at all. It would have saved a few pages if these parts were cut and wouldn't have affected much of the story. Anyway, I still enjoyed the book! ^^
