A light(er) Victorian mystery with a lady scientist-adventurer type and her surly-for-reasons-unknown companion. This was a slow burn for me and I would have liked to spend more time in certain plot side quests than the real narrative (the circus, mainly) but looking forward to reading more of them.

To be honest, Veronica got on my nerves at times. She was so clever one moment and in the next couldn’t see the obvious. And I would have probably liked it more if she was demi or ace because I'd have connected to her more.
The "big" reveal, I found it a bit too much.
