A very interesting premise with a lot of potential. I haven't read a lot of stories told in an epistolary format, this one was probably one of my firsts. I think it's a storytelling format that has a lot of potential if executed nicely. After all, it's a medium that allows us to fill in the gaps ourselves.

The thing that struck me about this story was the abundance of metaphors and symbolism, which I don't necessarily mind, but they felt odd and out of place somehow? While I can't say I haven't had similar conversations discussing such deep topics in depth with someone, in this case I feel like those scenes would have worked better in the form of inner monologues, a different format would probably have suited these themes better imo.
The symbolism in itself is fine, I didn't mind it, even enjoyed it at times, but I wished it would have (for lack fo a better word) blended better.

When Agnes recounts the incident at the office, wearing the red dress, the way she tells it comes across more like a narrotor would tell a story in a book. And of course some people may just choose to communicate like that, but it feels highly unnatural when compared to the rest of the casual dialogue in the book. It's not blatantly out of character for her, we know that she's a pretty sentimental person, but for some reason I can't suspend disbelief.

I'm not going to dwell too much on the pace, like many others have said it feels rushed (which is partially due to the epistolary format).

All in all I think it's an unique story, that perhaps would have worked had it been a little longer.
I did really like the reoccurring theme of 'What did you do to deserve your eyes today?'
And how the final line refers back to that.

Disgustingly filthy

Interesting and short, I felt the relationship between the two developed way too quickly to be realistic, and that's a shame. The violence and horror aspect also went too fast to seem to make sense. Would have liked to see more of them establishing the relationship beforehand. The emails weren't very realistic, but I loved the prose in them, so wasn't an issue for me.

Overall, it's an ok horror read. Well worth checking warnings before reading through, as there are a lot of nasty scenes that get right under your skin.
