The Ordinary Princess

Cute and quick book.

Recommended by my friend Dani. I loved it. I'm kind of sick of the whole argument that anyone who is blonde, blue-eyed, thin, and has perfect skin ISN'T real, and that only people who are "different" on the outside are interesting on the inside. That all the pretty princesses are vapid.

But otherwise, this was a VERY sweet read, and I loved the author's choice of words and how it felt like a really old story in the best way. Will definitely be a yearly re-read (if not more), because it's so quick and fun and lovely.

I think if I had read this when I was younger, it would have been one of my favorite books. However, I read it when I was past the intended age, so I wasn't as in love with it as I could have been.

This is a great children's book. The edition I borrowed had beautiful illustrations, and it has writing that is perfect for a younger audience. Princess Amy is relatable and little kids will love her story, especially girls.

The Ordinary Princess reminded me of the books I used to read when I was little and couldn't get enough of princesses and fairy tales. It's a very sweet story, but it is geared towards a very specific age group, and I just don't fit in that age group anymore.

One thing that does annoy me is the cover, but I don't mark down for covers. The girl on the newer edition looks way too young to be the princess in the story. The king and queen are trying to get Amy married, for Pete's sake! She looks like an eight year old!

Other than that, I really don't have anything bad to say about the book. I just like Young adult books better, and this is definitely not a Young Adult book.

I really loved this. Short, sweet, adorable, funny. Good to read aloud to kids (although they won't get all the humor). Beautiful illustrations done by the author.

If you like this, try Dealing with Dragons, My Father's Dragon, The Perilous Gard, The Farthest Away Mountain, Seven Daughters and Seven Sons, Half Magic, Five Children and It.

That was adorable, and I'd love more in that world. Perfect for reading aloud, and I love the illustrations. I am not quite so enamoured at the fun idea of living in the woods with no heating or ability to hunt, or the delightful game of being a scullery maid, but I can let that slide a little I guess.

A charming little fairy tale about a princess given the gift of Ordinariness when she is a baby. The writing skips and jumps along wonderfully; it asks to be read aloud.
