I have no idea why I am so addicted to this series. It is hard to get attached to anybody because characters are killed off left, right and centre. And I still think the art is down right offensive. But I keep coming back...

I really liked the continued back story in this one, especially at the end of the volume. The twists in this one were good but with a name like Basilick Rising, I wanted more of that back story. Still really good though.

Slightly better? 2.5 stars but I'm rounding down because it's still just so lifeless.
Volume 2 of the New 52 Suicide Squad gets a bit less...predictable (mostly because parts of it make no sense) but it's still pretty damn boring. Turns out that Harley has been resurrected by Waller after Deadshot gutshot her. That cliffhanger was the most obvious bullshit line I've ever seen. Even if you didn't know Harley was in the rest of the series, I don't think anyone would buy that she's permanently dead. Anyway, Waller sends the Suicide Squad after the villainous Basilisk group in earnest, tasking them with taking out Basilisk's leader, Regulus.
Regulus plans to take over the world by either eliminating all meta-humans or forcing them to join him. In every other way, Basilisk is a hideously boring Hydra carbon copy. The only excitement of Basilisk Rising comes from the notion that there's a traitor in the midst of the Suicide Squad who's been tasked with killing Waller. The constant back stabbing and double crossing gets old super fast and the sleeper agent element is ridiculous and confusing when it's finally revealed. Harley and Deadshot continue to be the only interesting characters (the rest are all C-list villains at best) and if either of them dies, it's gonna lose all life.
The traitor element and getting some of Waller's backstory with Regulus was the only thing that saved this story from being terrible but it's still pretty lame. Don't particularly recommend it but I feel compelled to finish this series.
