Solid story of a woman working in a male dominated job, facing crap she shouldn't have to.

Not Bad for a Girl by Anastasia Ryan was a book that challenged the male dominated industry, IT, to accept woman as one of them.

I finally got my hand on this book! The book like promised was quite quirky and cute. We were thrown into the life of a female IT coder who just doesn’t to be able to stand for misjustice in the workplace (and rightfully so). I found it quite refreshing that she was very honest with her bosses and stood up for herself. It was funny to read the interactions about the characters and how her situation came from bad to worse.

Though, the reason that book was so quirky also made me feel a bit disappointed as well. I think her friends weren’t very good to her at all, and there were so many instances that she could have gotten out of if only her friends just shut their mouths. Since she was so adamant in standing up to herself in a work meeting, she doesn’t stand up for herself with her friends. I thought that it was too much to a point, and I had to remind myself that this was just a book lol.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a wacky book about females in the workplace.

My rating: 4/5

Picture it: She's The Man but in a remote IT work environment. It happens by chance and the hijinks from Ana's friends continue to make the situation snowball against everyone's better judgement.

This title is Women's Fiction that heavily discusses how women are treated in the workplace, especially in technology. I wish the cover would have displayed Ana vs. Indiana as that is the main plot. The romance is a smaller portion of the story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity. All thoughts are my own!

Started off as a fun palette cleanser for me, but I was annoyed by the romance and miscommunication trope by the end of the book.

Misogyny in the workplace is far more nuanced than this book makes it out to be. The main character’s boss was one-dimensionally villainous. He did not read as a real person to me at all. The situations the main character, Indiana, found herself in were unrealistic and unbelievable.

As for the romance plot, it was a let down. It was certainly more of a subplot than a main one. The love interest did not stick out as unique or attractive to me as a reader, and there was not any true conflict centered around their relationship.

I think this novel is ambitious in its themes, but the author did not approach them with nuance or care.

This was a silly, easy read. A woman allows her virtual coworkers to assume she is a man and the plot spirals out of control.
funny

The romance is more of a side story to the main plot, but it was a funny tale.
