the further in time it gets from when i first read the book the more i appreciate it for everything that it is. i like to say that i didn’t actually think before i read this book and that’s not wholly an exaggeration. i never thought that i had so much to think about and so much to question. that may seem so obvious but because i’m so young, it wasn’t made clear to me. i find that every book i’ve read since finishing this one has been compared and related to the outsider in my mind. the things i see in my everyday life, things i normally wouldn’t notice, now in my mind prompt me to question and to think. this is such a great entry into philosophical lit and i’m so grateful to have read this.

mmmm something abt themes of Christianity + men being tried for who they are & not what they do just intrigues me🤭🤭 in all seriousness, this was an enjoyable, but at times slow, read & I love Camus’ technique of allowing readers to not only see this man’s thoughts but also judge him for them. We then get to see how his peers & court judge him too. It’s an effective way to confront the own reader’s tendency towards prejudice. For his emotions to set him free was lovely & tragically ironic, as we see that it was his lack there of that restrained him further both mentally and physically.

i found this book so interesting and particularly the lack of emotion from the protagonist. The ending was a bit bibbly babbly boo and philosophical so i may have to go back and read it again, it wasn’t what i expected it to be but i still thought it was a great little book
