This book gives you pretty much what you’d expect. The MC is surprising strong in the beginning and stands up for herself but as the book progresses she loses her agency and becomes a hot mess. Fair warning the book also ends on a cliff hanger. Hoping this is just the beginning of her development and she gets stronger by the end. It’s sort of enemies to lovers but not for long. The main difficulty with this book, despite the fact that it’s a quick read, is that the plot drags.

Very uneven pace. The beginning of the book was good, but the second half is all over the place
I think I went into this book thinking it was going to be a different kind of story? It started off great, lots of tension and anger and feelings between Mera and Valentine, but then I found myself bored and skimming a lot. The big reveal that it was all a memory wipe made the previously built up tension feel pointless and then the story just felt dull. And then this vampire KING dies? From a scratch of a fire blade? And then is resurrected as a kind of enthralled zombie? wtf... just...no.
