This book was okay, I guess, but not really my thing. I didn't particularly like Gabe's back and forth about his feelings for Josh. He reads very young and immature, and that type of character doesn't appeal to me at all. Technically, I DNF'd towards the end so I'm rating the book up to the point I decided to opt out.

Wow, this was a fantastic read if I do say so myself. I admit I’m not always up for a murder mystery since often the romance gets pushed to the side as the main focus is finding out the whodunit, but this right here? The romance took center stage, and it was a really entertaining story that pulled me in, surprising me at how much I enjoyed this.

Set in small town Ohio, this focuses on local hair stylist Josh Roman who’s had more than his fair share of horribly disappointing relationships. When a friend is murdered, he clashes with detective Gabe Wyatt, as Gabe awkwardly puts his big foot in it, making it an upward battle to make amends to the feisty Josh. Oh how the animosity runs high! What also runs high is their attraction, try as they might to deny it. No doubt there’s lust between these two, but the dislike on Josh’s part is understandable and the main obstacle to their lurve.

What I adored was the juxtaposition between Josh and Gabe. Josh is not some limpid person. He’s full of personality and bite, albeit with a huge chip on his shoulder - a button that Gabe unfortunately pushes over and over again. Gabe in turn, is one hot piece of man in all the right ways who admits to his mistakes and doesn’t play games. These two fight, resist, fight, pursue, and fight some more, and there was plenty of uncontrolled angry heavily on the dislike but can’t help but love each other’s cocks and wanting more but too scared to admit kind of sex. Uh huh.

I listened to this story, and I have to say that the prolific Joel Leslie is slowly breaking through my defenses. He’s still a little jarring at times but the back and forth that fuels the yummy UST, peppered with just the right amount of emotional feels and snark, along with the hot hot smex was just so good. Again, I like romantic mystery - this just had all the other stuff that I love even more which is a total win! I’m only bummed that the audio for the next book is not out yet. Darn!

Thank you to the author/publisher for the audio in exchange for a honest review

I loved that first Prologue with the Clairvoyant woman. It was so sweet!

The story itself was the perfect blend of mystery and romance, and though I felt like Josh was a bit of an ass in the beginning, I quickly came to like him.

I loved watching both Gabe and Josh's characters develop slowly and the mystery itself kept me on my toes. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series and watching these two's relationship develop.

I'm really hoping this author is like Anna Martin for me, that some books just won't hook me and other will, I really really hope so, because this one never hooked me, i don't even care enough about the "who done it" to make me want to continue.

Why Gabe even wanted a relationship with Josh I don't know? He was exhausting. Someone keeps rejecting me like that I'm out! I liked Josh sometimes but he annoyed me also.

This was a really good murder mystery. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the chemistry between Josh and Gabe but it has been a while since I've read a murder mystery that left me stump. I didn't figure out who the murderer was until moments before Gabe and Adrian did. Anyway, enough on about the murder. I like how Josh and Gabe's relationship began bumpy and continued on that same path. Even though I love a good HEA, it was nice seeing a couple who didn't throw out the "L" word after two dinners. I liked seeing it build over time. It was nice reading about a small town where everyone was accepting. I like how people were rooting for Josh and Gabe. The epilogue made me a little sad because I think I know who the victim is. Hopefully, I'm wrong. If you love m/m romance as well as a good murder mystery, check out this book.
