Is this a space opera? I am not sure - it felt to me like a much shorter book than originally conceived. So, I didn't really feel too emotionally connected to the characters as the plot unfolded.
This story has potential to be interesting; I would love a well-written murder mystery space opera. But, this story lacks. The characters don't make any sense. For example, Fin seems to regard Joke with disgust or disdain, but then they are having sex in a warehouse? Joke is written as this "otherworldly" type who you find out is the product of a sex fling between a man and a cosmic being? The story itself feels incomplete in that it jumps sporadically and appears lost in its own narrative.

This book was really compelling except for the parts that seemed to get a little weird into the mystical

This was a fun murder mystery that has a pretty cool setting that wasn’t super fleshed out. I got pulled out of the story trying to figure out how some things worked, which isn’t central to the story, but coupled with somewhat lacklustre character work, I kept wanting to know more about stuff not central to the core conceit. If you don’t care about that stuff and solely want the … semi locked room Murder mystery component? I think, is what it would be, I think those readers would really love this.
Loved the premise and characters, but the execution was just lacking.
3.5*
Locked room thriller in space. Just my cup of coffee and I did enjoy many aspects of this story: the premise, the denouement, the setting, the narrative structure and the mystery. Many things in fact. It’s just that some elements kept jarring me, curbing my enjoyment somewhat. Still, very entertaining and thrilling.
