This book took me way too long to learn, it was almost a DNF but pushed through. Very slow paced, and very ambiguous and overall not very rewarding. To start with I was very engaged with the story, but by the second half I was skim reading and wanting to be done with it.

So Ishiguro writes within several different genres. The Buried Giant was his fantasy foray and I found it profoundly boring. Never Let Me Go was his jump into science-fiction, and with this move Ishiguro maintained the immense boredom, but he also added a sprinkle of predictability. I was adamant I would not read another of his books, but many of the science-fiction channels I frequent on YouTube had this one rated highly; and despite the fact, I would not describe myself as overly prescient in figuring out plots, not only was Klara and the Sun just as boring as his two earlier books, but I’d “discovered” the plot and figured out the narrative within the first 30 pages, much like Never Let Me Go. Much too predictable and just a slog. The only question now is, should I read the Booker novel, The Remains of the Day, which is non-genre fiction, or is Ishiguro just not for me?

>3ish! ⭐️ At first a bit slow, then intriguing, then diverted down a weirdly obvious but lethargic storyline? Interesting that the AI was so advanced in numerous things - especially understanding human nuances and behaviour - but was never informed about the basics of the solar system…

Keen to see how this gets adapted to screen!

This is my first DNF of 2024. This story had so much potential, and it was disappointingly static, slow, and boring. The premise is so interesting, and I am just surprised the story went the way it did. I couldn't keep reading past halfway. I tried the audiobook, which is voice acted SO EXTRAORDINARY WELL, which is a shame since the story is so dull. Not even the superb audiobook acting could save it. I rarely DNF a book.

my favorite part was when the author introduced like 72 good themes and then didn't address them ever again
