Clive Cussler books are always fun to read. This was my first Isaac Bell Adventure and I really enjoyed it. It was a bit hard to follow, and jumped around a bit. I think it would have been better if I’d physically read it versus listened to it.

Cussler's algorithm for story telling is repetitive but they are usually good stories nonetheless even with other authors doing the leg work. This had potential to be a good story but it turned out to be slow and drawn out. Can't believe he signed off on this.

This was my first Clive Cussler book. I enjoyed it. It was very fast paced and kept my interest. There did seem to be a bit of jargon through the book that I'm not that familiar with but I attested it to the time the book was supposed to take place in as well as I am not very well versed in nautical and gangster language. Lol. Overall I enjoyed it. I did not realize it was part of a series and once I got it home I was worried I would be a bit lost in the book. But that did not happen. I was able to figure out who was who and it seemed reading the earlier ones did not matter, which I liked. I will admit I was browsing in the library and saw the vivid cover and picked it solely for that reason. Yes. I judged a book by it's cover. But this was a pleasant surprise and I do like the writing style and genre of adventure. I will be reading more of Cussler's books in the future.

Really enjoy the Issac Bell series. The historic timeline is fun since the stories take place in the early 20th century. In this story, Issac is tasked with taking on a ruthless bootlegger/smuggler during prohibition. This period of time was very challenging in the US. Police and federal law enforcement were corrupt and only the Van Dorn detectives are on the job. As Issac investigates the case he discovers that there is much more going on and the opponent is much more dangerous than even he suspected.

I recommend this series to any detective fan with a fun history background.
