Couldn't put this one down, though it was hard to read. Read this book if you are a parent, then make your child read it when s/he is the appropriate age. Such important issues discussed, even though it's fiction.
After reading other reviews, I'm surprised at how many people hated this book. Apparently those readers didn't find Hannah's reasons for committing suicide believable, and so they ended up not liking our victim all that much, even seeing her as a villain at times. I think that's the major point of the book, though- you don't have to justify your feelings and thoughts to others. They're yours and are legitimate, for better or worse. I appreciate that Hannah doesn't fit into the stereotype of a depressed teen and that we don't instantly love her as some tragic character. For a lack of a better word, she's a normal kid trying to deal with a lot of unfair situations that all together create too heavy a weight on her. When it comes to depression, bullying, and harassment, one size does not fit all. As Hannah reminds us, we really don't know how much of an impact our actions have on other people.
I have such mixed feelings on this book. As someone who has worked at a suicide hotline, I'm glad that this book actually talks about suicide and resources you can go to if you or a loved one is suffering. It also is a good book to show kids that your actions have consequences and you should think about how you treat others and how they feel. On the minus side, this book is just.. too unrealistically dramatic and doesn't show depression very accurately. Or more accurately it lacks that aspect. The portrayal of females in the book is not that great.. males too for that matter. It was an intense read, I'll give you that. I finished it in a matter of hours.
This story line is completely unique and I flew through this book! It is sad but I fell in love with it straight away.
I loved the way this book was written. For a serious subject, the book was fun to read through each characters perspective. A great story too!

Overall it was a good book. But it just wasn't the book for me. That's why I gave it a more mediocre rating.
