Resolution, y'all. I need it. Outside of a having complete resolution, Devolution was a great read for me. To the best of my recollection, I've not listened to a book about sasquatch (es?), much less one about a sasquatch massacre.

I appreciate the different forms of media used to tell the story- diary entries, interviews, readings from other books. The author's style choice made the book more interesting to read and follow.

Notes on the audiobook: I didn't really care for the lead actor, who plays Kate. Her voice doesn't fit the idea of Kate in my head, sounding instead like a cheerleader or the stereotype of a sorority girl. It became annoying.

I'd recommend this, even if only for the novelty of sasquatch (es?).

I just finished Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre by Max Brooks—a unique blend of genres! It’s a chilling horror story, a speculative sci-fi exploration, a gripping survival thriller, and an ecological critique. Told through journal entries and interviews, its epistolary style adds realism to this thought-provoking and intense read.

Slow start, great finish! This ain't Harry and the Henderson's, bigfoot ain't your friend!

Audio—amazing audio performances!

A little grisly for my taste, but chilling to read in early October (the dates this takes place), and hard to not search on the internet for news articles about this. It’s so real!

Audio again. Book club with Andrew. Gosh this book is good. Grisly was a little easier to take this time around. I want so badly to pick this for regular book club, but I’m not sure how it will come across.

Book 30 for 2020 was "Devolution: A Firsthand Account Of The Rainier Sasquatch Massacre" by Max Brooks. Brooks is the author of "World War Z" and this book is the same type of horror story told in pseudo documentary form.

I gave this book 5 stars. It's f-ing amazing, engaging, and fun in a horrifying way. The tongue in cheek way Brooks referenced the extreme "off the grid" types made me chuckle while at the same time he made some great points about the dangers of trying to anthropomorphize nature, assuming that wild creatures are benevolent and friendly just because that's what we may want to believe, as well as just downplaying danger in general. It's apropos to what's going on in the world in regards to the pandemic and how many people seem to refuse to either acknowledge the danger, or downplay it, as well as the problems of eventually succumbing to danger fatigue.

You definitely need to listen to the Audible Audio version of this book in order to properly experience this story. It's narrated by a full cast - Judy Greer, Max Brooks, Jeff Daniels, Nathan Fillion, Mira Furlan, Terry Gross, Kimberly Guerrero, Kate Mulgrew, Kai Ryssdal, & Steven Weber. They do an excellent job and add a submersive dynamic to the story that is impossible to achieve through just reading on your own.

From the Goodreads description:
"Part survival narrative, part bloody horror tale, part scientific journey into the boundaries between truth and fiction, this is a Bigfoot story as only Max Brooks could chronicle it—and like none you’ve ever read or listened to before." And seriously, definitely listen to the audio version if you decide to read this book.
