Another enjoyable read by Max Brooks, though similar to his fictional recounting of the events in World War Z, this book also takes a slightly different approach to the same concept.

The story was a little slow off the bat, with the LA transplant narrator getting a bit on my nerves, but the entire cast of characters is engaging enough to get you through to the more gripping bits.

I really enjoyed the parts of the book that examined how people will react to adversity and how it's not always the ones you expect who are able to adapt the best.

As for Sasquatches and all that lore, I found the following quote to resonate with me as someone who has never encountered anything of the sort:

"I believe them, or rather, I believe that they believe themselves."

My only complaint is the weird Halo Top ice cream product placement.

All I can say is that this book is somehow the best book for 2020.

5 stars right up to the end and it stumbles on the Finish line. He just didn’t take Kate as far as the epilogue wants to take her. I just couldn’t quite buy that option 4 was realistic.

If there’s anything worse than visualizing your own death, it’s knowing that you caused it.

Can we please stop trying to make yeti happen? It's NOT going to happen.

Disappointing after the amazing World War Z. And the format did NOT fit the content. You can't just break a first person narrative up by days and then say it's someone's journal. That's...not what a journal sounds/feels like.

This book was so good. Not something I would typically read but it kept me on the edge of my seat. It is a bit gory but I highly recommend it.

Halfway through and I’ve cut bait. The plot conforms to every monster-threat-disaster-how-do-we-cope B movie that I’ve ever seen. Most of the screen time of those films is committed to various characters standing around talking about themselves. One’s a rationalist who wastes time explaining science, one’s a frightened alarmist, another is the courageous one who gets things done. The narrator is you, the witness who is willing to do the right thing if a righteous leader would step up.

It’s not giant ants, creeping blobs, or killer aliens this time, it’s Sasquatches.
