After finishing this, I still don't know how I feel about it. It was an intense roller-coaster, and I pushed my way though even though some parts felt difficult and that I wanted to stop. Being from the UK and having no knowledge or experience growing up with army life or interest in guns/war etc. some parts were a little more difficult to read through (the pro army etc. mentality for some characters). Following Katy through this had me yoyo-ing between Briggs and Gavin just as much, and I really struggled with the decisions. A huge part of me was on team Gavin for a lot of it, and it was hard reading through his experience too. I am glad I read this (even though I usually avoid any that have cheating) but I am also glad that I have finished it too and it has come to an end.
I know this probably isn't the most positive review, yet I gave it 4 stars but my reason for doing that is that the writing is good, the characters good and their development and experiences drag the reader along too. It was purely my views on cheating/army etc. that made it the struggle for me to read but I would still recommend this to others as it is a good and heartbreaking read!

Heartbreak Warfare deserves to wear its title like a badge of honor. The book is a military romance unlike any I have read before. It is unflinchingly raw, poignantly real, astoundingly passionate, and compulsively readable.
Fair warning: If you can’t handle angst or love triangles, step away now. Personally, I have to be in the right mood, and this story is one emotional adrenaline rush that I welcomed. I read the book straight through and held my breath the entire time. Actually, that’s a lie. Maybe I had to take a quick breather a couple times, but then I dove right back in.
Katy is a fresh-faced Army nurse who underestimates her own strength and bravery. Briggs lives to serve his country and is fueled by facing enemy fire. They are stationed in the same unit in Iraq, and charismatic Briggs instantly rubs Katy the wrong way. They have an intriguing dynamic that grows more intense when crap hits the fan. Waiting at home for Katy is her husband, Gavin, and their young son.
I loved the complexity of the relationships and the way in which duty, trust, and love are equally important to all the characters. I also appreciated the multiple perspectives the story provides. From the military battlefield in Iraq to the emotional war raged at home, the balance between selfishness versus selflessness is an issue that is repeated. The content is graphically violent at times, but necessarily so. Much to my respect, returning to life after deployment is explored in an honest and unyielding way without being romanticized.
Heather Orgeron and Kate Stewart are a formidable writing team. Their styles mesh seamlessly, and the story is told with such fluidity that it is hard to believe this is the work of two different authors. They have created characters that are vivid and unwaveringly compelling.
Heartbreak Warfare ruthlessly clutched my cynical and battered heart in its hands from the very first chapter, and yet I regret nothing. My soul felt settled in the end. I know a book is good when it challenges me to re-evaluate my perceptions after “The End”. This story will linger with me for some time. Hello book hanger.

The characters in here I loved them all and didn’t know who I was rooting for. Kate Stewart never disappoints. And Briggs!??? New book boyfriend!

Wow. Just wow. This book consumed me. I could not put it down, I didn’t want to. It was hurting my heart left and right. I’m an emotional puddle of goo. Right from the very first page I knew this story was going to make me feel...things. I don’t think I can write a half way decent review because this book moved me. Ugh feelings everywhere! I made my husband come lay down with me so I could talk it out with him. I had to talk it out with someone! I cried. Like, my cold dead heart burst wide open and emotions where spilling out all the the place. It was messy. Ugh. Just ugh I say! Damn book. Why you gotta be so amazing?! I don’t know, I can’t stop saying wow. In my own opinion, this is hands down a must read. Okay I’m emotionally drained. I need a nap and some carbs.
Heather and Kate did NOT hold back. What an amazing journey. I was so angry, frustrated, angsty, anxious, heartbroken, sad, happy, etc while reading. So so many emotions. ALL the emotions.
It's going to take DAYS to process this book. It will take years if not a lifetime to fully absorb this story. These characters will live with me for a long time.
There were times I threw my Kindle down not wanting to read the next part. There were times I just could not read fast enough. There were times, I wanted to savor the story and live in it a bit longer.
I do not want to give ANYTHING away. I will say listen to the authors and just read the book. TRUST the story. I know if you've read any other Kate Stewart book you will have a hard time trusting in it and I will say she will do what she does best which is mindf*ck you but in the best possible way. Sorta. I might not be 100% happy with her as things didn't got the way *I* wanted them to. But it did go the way the story was meant to.
This is a story you will want to one star b/c it puts you through HELL. But you know that it's really a 5 star BECAUSE it put you through HELL.
~I volunteered to read an advance copy.

Ok so this one didn't tug at my heart that I thought it was expected to. This isn't the type of book I go look for into reading. Katy annoyed me majority of the book. I just didn't see the rave that others saw in this book.
Lets talk about the cover. If the book is mainly from the female pov, why is there a shirtless man on the cover?

I really struggled to finish this story. I found myself incredibly frustrated with the unreasonable expectations placed on the FMC and really didn’t enjoy most of the characters. I don’t think military based stories are for me at all. This is probably the least enjoyable book by Kate Stewart I’ve read.
