ABC challenge: A
This is disappointing for me. I really want to love everything in the book. Fantastical world, sorcerers, and something big turmoil in the kingdom. An ordinary library worker just turned to one of those magical users. Learning to get used with her awaken powers, she struggled to maintain her desires with her simplistic life and…more than one love interests. However, I’m not overly impressed by the way it written; it is like doused you in ice water and you yet accustomed its opening and their characters. There are none warmth feeling of curiosity or gradually developing a connection with any of those characters. It was rushed for my taste, or it is more written like fanfiction; a mere entertainment in short time. :(

I think I enjoyed this book so much because the pacing is AMAZING. I read this book in a day and it was able to keep me interested the entire time. There were no unnecessary scenes that played out painfully long.
Vhalla and Aldrik’s enemies to friends to lovers romance is so well played out with no insta-love. Probably the purest romance I’ve read all year since Graceling in January. My only complaint is that this book is definitely the groundwork for the rest of the series. Not much happened besides character and world building, but since the book isn’t very long I can’t complain too much. Vhalla is such a self aware character it’s so refreshing.

Air Awakens by Elise Kova has quickly become one of my favorite reads this year. Full disclosure? I honestly picked this book up because I had seen it around bookstagram and loved the cover! I know, I know, you can't judge a book by its cover. But sometimes, actually more often that not, I find this tactic works out for me. On to what I thought of the WORDS in the book:

Everything about this book was magical and not just because its about magic! Vhalla is thrown into a world that she's been taught to fear and hate. A world that is "wrong" in the eyes of her people. She learns that she possesses magic herself. In denial she tries to hide this from herself. Watching as Vhalla comes to terms with her new reality, while growing closer to the most powerful sorcerer, Price Aldrik was quite a journey. The ending left me begging for more. So of course I immediately had to run out and grab the rest of this series!

I started reading Air Awakens on Monday and finished Friday afternoon of a VERY busy week. I couldn't stop. I loved the characters and the world that Elise Kova created and I absolutely cannot wait to continue reading this series. I'm excited to see what's next for these characters.

Cant make up my mind on this. I might try the sequel.

I like elements; dislike the heroine often, dislike lover boy often. Enjoy some world-building but think it was rushed in many places. Thought the ending was trite.

Heroine was often "fidgety" and meek, and weak, and frail, and delicate, and thin, and carried around like a fucking baby bird, and abused, and beaten. Ugh. And all of it unnecessary. But she is a special snowflake. And then unexpected surprise EVIL, eVVVVVVIIIILLL dude. Out of nowhere. Just for shits and giggles? And more dehumanizing treatment for women. She is the only female character who isnt a "handmaiden to special snowflake" type.

And all the men in power treat her like trash, literally.

Also, literally there is a Cinderella ball scene, no joke.

And she likes books. Did you know? Did you forget? Let me remind you five million f'in tomes, er, times.

And love interest almost kills her for pure ego. Then she forgives him cause "he dark and brooding and misunderstood goth magic powerhouse of mystery." Blech. Then he lets her be beaten, and tried for his attempted assassination, after she saves his life? Why? It makes no sense even in the book so the author hides the circumstances under "it all happened while heroine was yet again unconscious" as though that will fill the gaping plot sinkhole that swallows the whole end of the book.

Le premesse c’erano… ma non mi è piaciuto. Non ho per niente empatizzato con la protagonista e le sue scelte

I first heard about this book on tiktok. Many people raved about it. I personally was expecting something completely different. I thought it was an enemies to lover with a lot of angst. Instead it was kindaaaa an enemies to lovers not really.
The book was very fasted paced which I usually enjoy but for some reason this missed the mark for me. The writing was simple and I felt everything would happen to easily. I did not feel there was any plot really but the latter half of the book was definitely my favorite.
I would recommend this book for anyone possibly just getting into fantasy wanting a fast easy read. Reminded me of an elevated wattpad story in a good way. Very much Avatar the last air bender vibes.
This is a series I see a lot of potential in and will continue to read so hopefully the following books with suit me better.
