Air Awakens

I’m going about reading Elise’s backlist all out of order ahahaha. I was first introduced to this world in her other series, A Trial of Sorcerers. Having enjoyed that, I definitely had to come back and read the original series in this world.

Air awakens definitely has a lot of similarities with Avatar: The Last Airbender - Vhalla has air magic and is the last one of her kind. Different regions are known for controlling different elements. There is of course war, political intrigue, etc etc but this story definitely has enough differences to stand on it’s own and given I enjoyed Avatar quite a bit, it just makes me nostalgic and led me to enjoy this story even more. It also made me think a tad of Shadow and Bone with the whole, magic wielder training and all.

This is a very quick and easy read. I feel like I blinked and it was gone. The princes were both very different and yet both fun in their own way. There’s some tension starting to build *smirky face* and I can’t wait to see where this goes.

All in all, an enjoyable read. I have a feeling I’m going to binge this series and it’s all gonna blur together as one book ahahaha.

I actually listened to the audiobook and I do have to say the narration was excellent.

A huge thanks to the author and Book of Matches Media for providing the audiobook for review. All opinions are my own.

Fun and surprising read

I wasn’t sure what to expect at first but the there definitely some good surprises I didn’t see coming which is always something fun for me since I read a lot of books with the same mix of ingredients so I’m decent at predicting plots. Would recommend for a fast read that keeps you hooked to want more.

1.5 stars rounded down. The concepts for the world and plot were both good, and I liked Vhalla. However, the whole effect was spoiled for me by poor writing. Excessive descriptions and dialogue tags stuck out the most to me. (The moon never needs to be called a "celestial orb".) I also don't think I noticed any contractions throughout the book, which made the writing sound stilted and awkward. I finished the book for the sake of the plot, but I wish the writing had been at the same level.

Such a pretty cover. Good read.

Didn’t enjoy the main character or the romance dynamic. Main character frustratingly passive and narrow minded.

I love this book even more the second time around. I love this series. I love everything about the characters, the world building, the library references. Everything. Give this book to me in an IV and let it seep through my veins over and over until I have it memorized.
