The First time I read this book it seemed like a masterpiece, but rereading it now I understand it isn't. It has some flaws here and there, some things that don't really make sense and it's mainly plot driven, which is never a good thing. But somehow it works. The story it's very interesting and I think the author really dedicated herself to it; maybe some things in the plot don't make sense, but the whole universe is very well explained and it's obvious the author had the whole story in her mind, which helps the flow. The characters are not so original but lovable, just a bit under-unalized. I just feel like we could've got so much more about the psychology behind each character but it just felt so rushed. Overall it's an enjoyable book, I recommend it.

I'd give it 3.5 stars. There's a lot of set up. I listened to the audio and it was a fast and easy listen. Fun book.

Okay so this was fun and a quick read for sure, adventurous and nicely written.

I loved the aspect of time travel, and all the complex world building was impressive and wonderful, as it always is in Kerstin Gier books.
However someone tell me why Gideon is such an idiot?? Every single man in this book is sexist and full of misogyny, he treats her like a prick, and the romance is so not believable.

I do adore Gwendolyn though, and the BFF relationship with Leslie is beautifully captured in this.

I felt for the characters, and especially Gwen, these books tend to just suck one in immediately.

But I think the only thing I’ll remember from this is my frustration on Gwendolyn’s behalf, in all situations. No one ever told the poor girl what was going on and then got mad at her for not knowing, Gideon being the first to do so at all times.

Still I will be continuing this immediately, that’s just Kerstin Gier magic. These things are addictive.
